So I’m running my route doing my thing. I’m training a new guy and see a new place being opened next store, great. I walk over and introduce myself, put in a bid and have some good laughs, close the deal.
My guy finishes and we pack our stuff and head off…but before I get in the car I see another window cleaner pull up in that new business and talk to the people.
I then proceed to walk over to that business, thinking it would be funny to totally mess with this guy…but I didn’t because that wasn’t professional. So instead I go back to my car. Then he drives by me and because I was in a giggly mood I raised my hands and yelled “HEY” just to be funny.
I then get a call 45 seconds later…
This guy, window cleaner, starts off saying he was sorry… sorry for what?
He then tells me that a few months ago he applied for a position to work with me. He tells me that he was sorry for being dishonest.
After talking with this idiot for about 10mins I remembered who he was.
Apparently he’s been in business for a few years and things were slow so he wanted side work…right, he probably wanted exposure to my clients to take’em…that’s the feeling I got, especially since he was asking me specific questions about my business.
I then say, “I saw you go in that new business that opened up over there”. he replies with, “yeah I got that contract”. He doesn’t know that 10mins before he went in I closed that deal…I reply with “yeah, I talked to them like 15mins before you went in”…a pause, and all he says is “Oh”…LOL
This economy is breading bucket bob’s like rabbits, BUT as long as we the “true professionals” continue to rock and roll we’ll be fine.
