Always used “Smurf juice” too, right on the washer with as much water squeegee’d off of it as I can get.
To keep from dumping half a gallon-a-job on the ground I also use mdefiel’s method of a squeeze bottle. Hangin’ right on the belt in a pouch it’s mighty handy. I use the same pouch to carry my hard H2O solution in-season.
