Best demographic for selling door to door

Can anyone share their experiences selling door to door?

I’m wondering:

  1. What personal characteristics have been most/least receptive to buying window cleaning services from selling door to door (age, family/no family, retired/working)

  2. What other characteristics have been most/least receptive to buying window cleaning services from selling door to door (cookie cutter homes/golf course homes, factors like time of day/week/year, weather, region, etc)

In what kind of condition is their lawn? That will be a pretty good indicator of their attitude about other types of home maintenance.

You want people with disposable income. You want neighborhoods with enough homes to make your time worthwhile.

Go on sunny days. Smile. Offer genuine compliments on people’s homes or gardens. Be conversational and low pressure in your pitch. Make sure and do your research and get any permits necessary for door to door sales.

And I may catch some flak for this one, but:
If you find someone from India, tack 25% onto your price and allow them to haggle you down to your target price (or maybe a little less). If they like you, you will be cleaning windows for all of their extended family members, as well.

Don’t haggle with anyone else. It’s not worth it.

What Alex said and yes, increase price for anyone from India, Central and South America. It is just part of their culture to haggle.
