So… You should tell your customer that YES! In Amerika you can sue anybody for any reason! You don’t even have to be mentally stable to submit a handwritten document to petition the court for redress.
Get yourself some insurance to give yourself and your customer some peace of mind and then market the heck out of the fact you have it.
@ Chris, no no no. Rate is same for all employees and is a % of compensation, same % for all employees. WC covers medical expenses too, you go to an ER in NJ and if work related injury, personal medical insurance will not want to pay. Personal insurance policy will want to go after WC and if no WC will go after homeowners insurance.
Insurance cos collect premiums and then do everything they can to get someone else to pay the claims.
You’d need to talk to your military insurance provider to find that out. I assume if it’s health insurance, you would be covered for any injuries, but not for lost work, etc. That’s what you need a disability policy for.
My husband is full-time military. He has commented that if he’s injured and discharged, he would qualify for full retirement and military disability, but again, he is full-time and has his 25 years in. So I don’t know the rules with that either.
My guess is that you will not only protect yourself but be able to land more work if you bite the bullet, get the insurance then market yourself as fully insured.
