Cutting Rubber for Liquidator

Using non-factory rubber in the Liquidator. Pretty rough results when I cut them.

Please share (upload) photos, videos, and advice on how to cut:

[1] the angles correctly
[2] flush (straight up and down)

Tell/show us how you do it please.

Cut rubber to length by using either a fresh razor blade or box cutter blade. Rest blade on rubber and tap with hammer. I personally don’t get too anal about the angles. Trim with a pair of sharp scissors once housed correctly in the channel.

I use the all purpose Ronan cutter I bought from WCR years ago. It makes it SO easy.

I cut mine an 1/8 bigger. I put the channel down along side of the rubber and scissor or blade it. I then put it into the channel. I cut it bigger because it can stretch when you put it in. Then I use a paper clip to hold one side and I play with the other side until the rubber isn’t stretched or shrunk. I then slice the remainder by following the angle of the clip.

It may not be just the rubber. Soap, technique, etc. there’s a lot of threads on the liquidator. @Samuel could it be that he is not listening to techno music while using it? :joy:

Yes. A Ronan Cutter. http://www.ronantools.com/ I was thinking of buying one of those. You think it’s good? I wasn’t sure whether they’d be awkward and cumbersome to use cutting the 45% angles, or not.

Which model do you use?

Multi-Cut 301?
Multi-Cut 401?
Multi-Cut 3 in one?

How long do the razor blades last?

The Ronan cutter works really well for nipping liquidator-shaped rubber. I mark my end cuts with a silver sharpie before loading the rubber blade, then cut the rear corners with the rubber in the channel. Make sure you blast some techno any time your hand is on a liquidator and it should be all good.

I think it’s the 3-in-1? I’ll check tomorrow.

I’ve had the same blade in there for 3 years. Keep it dry.

Hi just an update.

Just bought these babies off Ebay:

I have to say this tool is PERFECT (no exaggeration PERFECT) for cutting non-factory rubber to fit Liquidator channels.

Absolutely stoked with this tool. It’s brilliant. Shopped for cheaper price and shipping on Ebay, and really pleased with the purchase.

In case you missed it, I’ll say it again, this tool is PERFECT (I mean PERFECT) for cutting rubber for the Liquidator.

A little clarification about use.

As brought out above by someone already, it’s best to draw/scribe the measurements on the rubber first, with a pen or marker (or whatever you choose) and then cut. Just line the Ronan cutter up with your markings, and a single tight squeeze, and you get a beautiful flush cut every time. Just great. You can do that inside or outside of the channel. That’s your preference.

Far (way way WAY) better than using scissors or a Stanley knife, or a scraper. I recommend it.

In saying that, use what you’ve got in mean time (or can afford). It’s just a recommendation, nothing else.

I love my Ronan cutter as well. Silver sharpie works nicely to mark the cuts before you make them.
