Di tank capacity

Hi there

Want to ask this before making any uninformed claim to the people who rents me tanks.
I’ve been using a 1.2cu.ft tank and I’ve been noticing that the quantity of resin is somewhat inconsistent.

The tank is not full to the top, but my last tank was filled let say 4 inches from the collar of the bottle, today I picked up a new one and the level of resin is 6-8inches below the collar.

What’s wrong there? Is supposed to be like that ?

thanks

No one knows ?
That’s a first

Generally we fill tanks as much as possible. If they are shorting you resin, then you have a valid concern.

I would simply tell them that you noticed that this tank didn’t last as long as the last and that you noticed that this tank had less resin in it.

Whys that?

Shawn, so there’s not a “technical” reason to keep the resin levels way below the top of the bottle, right ?

Mine is a 1.2cu.ft so I can maybe post the tank’s dimensions and see if someone with a similar tank can compare sizes and see if the tank is bigger than 1.2 and that’s the reason why isn’t filled to the top.

thanks again

Hey Carlos,

I was curious so I went and checked my tank out. I always thought it was just a cubic foot, but it says 9.35 gallons, which works out 1.24 cubic feet.

Here’s the way mine looked:

That’s pretty much full… maybe the rental place is only giving you a cubic foot?

Micah, I appreciate that you take the time to shoot that picture for me.
Is kinda hard to tell how many inches from the top, might be the water distorting the pic.

I’ll pull mine from the truck and measure. My idea is not to make a big deal out of this, but first I want to get my moneys worth , and even a little bit more of resing is the difference on finishing a job or have to go back.

thanks again Micah.

No problem,

The resin is just about to the top of the threading, probably about 3/4’s of an inch from the first thread.

My rental DI tank is a size 9x44 which is the larger size. I can see the shadow of the resin in the tank on a sunny day and it’s probably 7 to 9 inches from the top of the tank.

I don’t worry about it though because the tank will run 000 for almost a year around here.

That’s awesome Richard, my average TDS here is around 240-260 and I can get 6-7 houses done out of a tank, depending on the size of the house obviously.

OMG!!!

6 or 7 houses???

I get 6 or 7 months from a tank!!! I’d be bankrupt if I had your system!

Oh man!!! that’s unfortunate that your tank expires so quickly. I’m no expert but I would think that you would fare better with one of those fancy RO/DI systems. That would be a big initial investment but would surely pay off in the long run.

I agree with both of you, but my tank exchange is affordable considering what I charge for the cleaning. RO/Di system in on the wish list for sure, but I can live with that expense for now.

Now that I think better it might be almost double than that quantity of houses, since 6-7 was when I was using my 1/2cu.ft tank, that sucker was expensive since I was ordering resin from Chris, and we’re on the opposite side of the country if you add shipping and the weight of it, it gets really expensive.

when you get an unused tank (no water) it should be filled to the top. After you add water and use it the DI will settlel in the tank and you should have 4-6" of free bor ( space between the DI and the top of the tank) this is why the tank needs to be filled to the top when it is dry.

That makes sense. Thanks for the info!

Thanks Bill, but that confirm my suspicions, since it has around 6" of space from the top when dry. I’ll talk to them and see what they say.

Thanks
