will you drop your price to win a bid or do you stick to the price you quoted the costumer? In other words will you price match?

I will restructure the service offering to meet their budget needs, and if the price match price isn’t much lower, I would consider it.

I have no carte-blanche refusal system in place.

I try to figure them out first. I take in to consideration the drive time, the size of the job, if its a big job Im more willing to negotiate. Honestly for me their attitude goes a long way, if they are nice Im more willing to work with them, if I feel like they might turn into a regular customer. I guess it also depends on the season and how busy we are. Apparently i dont have any clear cut plan that I stick to.

YES! I will match a price to get a job if the price is reasonable.

It really all comes down to if we NEED the job or not. Certain times of year we wont price match other times of the year we will.

Certain days well price match… Lets say its 4 pm and a job for tomm morning at 6 cancels out… We might price match the next caller into the office in order to fill that schedule hole for the next morning.

I don’t price match unless it’s around the same discount I might already give. But most of the time that I’ve been asked to price match, the difference has been ridiculous. ie: my price $250 vrs competitor $175.

To be honest I have only had this happen 2 or 3 times.

I have been asked a few times to match someones price, and have allways refused, The way I see it, I give a fairly competitive price to begin with if I want the work and the customer called me as opposed to someone else for a reason( We don’t really advertise, so if someone calls its on a reccomendation)
The few times it’s come up, after a brief conversation with the customer, Its become obvious that either the other bid is for a completely different service than we offer or the other guy just had no idea what he was doing

You can tell things are getting primordal. Customers I’ve had for years and for whom I’ve done over the top service are going with cheaper companies. no one is calling for bids, I’ve got to hunt for business, even though this is the busy season. I hope things change soon. It is no longer a question of will I price match, the question is can I afford to do these jobs at the rediculously low prices my competitors are charging.

I would have to be hurting to “price match”. But I have been known to maybe give a reduced price for quantity (high number of windows or volume of stores).

I also have the following listed on all my quotes:

“At I DO WINDOWS, we charge a fair, industry standard price for above-average quality service. We offer discounts for contracted services and incentives for local referrals for I DO WINDOWS.”

I think that this all boils downs to perceived value of your services. I always give the prospect the run down of our features and benefits of having us do the service. Usually in my area, we exceed their expectations and certainly out do the competition. If you make it seem that they are getting a better quality service with you than with the other guy, most don’t mind paying more. But if they are firm in their notions about you giving them a cheaper price than you originally quoted, it’s not worth it. Get what you’re worth, not what they think you’re worth.

There are some percentages somewhere that determines if you get 80% of jobs you quote for - then you are far to cheap. I’m probably around 40%, may have been even lower if I didn’t instill faith into the customer. I like to get a feel for the customer being a one man operation & see the longevity of window cleaning for the property in the future. There’s nothing worse than doing all the hard work as a one off (even at a higher price), only to see it being snatched up later by a half-pricer.
It’s difficult in these times & economy to know which way to go. I think bidding trends will tell you how cheap or expensive you are. I think if you go in knowing your absolute lowest & your peak bid, you can negotiate without effecting your back-pocket.
Seasonal variations are a different subject - these will get you through low times. Work smart, not hard.

I’d love to hire - the laws here don’t make it viable. To hire here, you have to take out contracts from minute 1 - they usually go sick on their second day for the rest of the contract.

Does BMW price match with Ford?

I’ll match or beat a competitors price if its fair, but ive had companies come in way too low for me to even come close…i tell the customer to stay with that company…as long as theyre satisfied with their service…but would they be checking around if they were satisfied??? On the other hand i have a customer that had another wcer doing her windows at about $75 lower than my price…i did her windows, she was satisfied and now shes a customer of MINE… so some customers will pay more for better service, others just want cheap…
