Dryer Vent Cleaning

Wow there is a crazy price different between Deluxe Dryer Vent Brush Kit for Nikro Vacuum $550 and LintEater system for $40 bucks. Seems like a no brainer…

That is a huge difference. Does anyone know the difference in the product. Is the Nikko system worth the extra money? Often a tool for professional use is worth the money cuz it does more, last longer etc. any opinions?

Today I cleaned a 40 foot run. The lint eater comes with 12 feet, so I’d need 4 of them. The lint eater rods are threaded and therefore could come unscrewed inside the duct. That’s not the case with the Nikro kit. Comes with a nice carrying case. Three size brushes instead of just the one

It’s the difference between a squeegee from the gas station and one we use every day. They both would get the job done, but which one is the right tool for the job?

But I also use the best of all the equipment I can afford(Titan Aluminum reels instead of steel Summit reels, carbon fiber poles instead of fiberglass, 14’ enclosed and wrapped trailer). I’m not bragging, but just letting you know my mindset. I bet the Nikro system will hold up much longer than the lint eater too.

Lots of guys make $$$ using the lint eater kit. Give it a try.

If i can ask what a average cost to clean these vents? $150 average?

$80-$90 & takes 1 hour. I also sell them a product called Lint Alert which adds another $35 profit.

I would say try the lint eater, see if you can market the service… then if and when you can justify the upgrade, go for it. But at $40 you really don’t have much to lose. And the extension kits are only $18 ($4.50/rod)- if you snapped a rod every week, they’re basically disposable at that price!

oh, and whatever you do, don’t reverse the drill if you’re using the linteater

Great thread. Love the video from dateline. Guess mr. Hanson dosent stop with the child molesters… Did you see the look on the guys face? Great video. Great thread. I’m already creating a card for the service.

I have been doing tons of research into this. There is a huge opportunity in my area.

Hey go4dabukz (Brennon), I think I asked you at NOLA but wasn’t sure. If you go in from the outside, doesn’t that push alot of lint in to the back of the Dryer? Or, do you go undo the inside first, push the rod through, and then turn on the drill.

Thanks,

Charlie

Good question. Rarely do we do it from the outside. Our equipment just wouldn’t fit through from the inside, so we had to. When running from the outside, you’ll turn the dryer on and that will cause all the lint to blow away from the dryer instead of pushing lint toward it.

The way we do it is, disconnect the dryer vent from the inside of the house, behind the dryer, hook a circle vac duct adapter to the vent outside the house, go in from the inside pushing all the dust down into the vac outside so your not lugging a dirty dust vacuum around a customers house, even though we have special vacuums designed for cleaning fire place soot, and they do not reject as much as a shop vac would, its more professional.

Also remember, if you take a screw driver to a dryer and open it up, you are now responsible for it, also if you are not a licensed HVAC technician or a licensed appliance repair technician, you may be breaking local state laws,

I know in New York and N.J you must have either or to do so, and if you do not and there house burns down, its lawsuit time and your buying a new house,

In N.Y in order to get licenced and insured for either you must have 3 years of W2,s from a HVAC or appliance repair company, and they must sign off on your application. You must also have at least a restricted electrical licence as well which requires 3 years of working for a company that was and had a electricians licence and they must sign off as well.

Now if your just cleaning the duct and not opening up the dryer itself, then your ok.

Now to fully clean a system you must take apart the dryer and clean inside the unit.

Hope this helps,

Going to bed, meeting at 8am, night…

I’m sad to report that I had two of the Nikro rods snap yesterday and one a couple weeks ago. They said that I needed to set the clutch on my drill to eliminate any excess torque, but these were operating without much torque.

$26 each is a hard pill to swallow. I might be looking elsewhere to replace.

Brennon,

Thanks for all the input. What is the Lint alert and where do you get that from. Does it help with repeat business

I have been doing dryer vent cleaning for a couple years i have the lint eater and also the ram air system wich cleans the dryer vent super fast. but the lint eater does an awesome job. i use deyer vent cleaning as a give away on my post card if they book by certain date they get the dryer vent free it only takes about 15 min so im giving a small amount of time away to get in the door works very well on our marketing material and we state its a $99 value so it adds alot of value

Wow. Many of our runs are 24-32 feet long and take about an hour start to finish. Are you doing yours from the outside? 95% of ours are from the inside.

should be able to find everything at LintAlert® Dryer Safety Alarm | Protect Against Dryer Fires. Doesn’t help with repeat(this is my first season doing it), but it does add about $35 profit to the job.

window cleaning to provide information about it.
