PS
In my market $9 a window would be right on and the job should take one guy one day.[/QUOTE]

That’s sounds about right to me to

I’d probably price that one out as 5 to 6 windows.

Yes, that’s the big one. Although ladder access is real easy - thankfully not tight landscaping in front of it. But inside will be tricky. I priced that one at $48.75 per side. Not going to fret any though. Nice challenge. If he decides I should do it cool, if not next week is full up anyway. Although the water pump went out on the truck today. Kind of sucks. Two close in jobs tomorrow and done around lunch then off to the garage!

Another thought. Just because he said someone did it for $200 dosent mean the Guy did. He just may be trying to get you to drop the price. That has happened to me. I ask how come you didn’t call him back? Oh he isn’t around anymore or I don’t remember who it was. ( just my 2 cents)
Good luck hope you get it.

Win some you lose some

I don’t get many customers like this, but I did have one lady who called me for a quote- I gave the estimate over the phone. She immediately says, “wow, that’s pretty high… My last guy did it for x amount” etc. I stuck to my price, and she said goodbye. The next year, she calls me again, this time she wanted me to do the quote in person. I came up with the same price, figured she’ll give me the same answer. She scheduled right then and there, for the price I originally set. After I did the cleaning, she had nothing but good things to say about the work, and said see you next year.

Humans are strange creatures; rarely logical

Problem is every market has these “Jackwagons” that do windows for cheap to make a buck and then disappear . . . so that guy got a great deal at $250 and now your going to have a tough time convincing him why he should pay more. I have that problem with CCU’s, the cleaning people do the windows for half the cost so I don’t even focus my efforst on them and won’t give the a bid. 95% of my new clients are repeat customers so I am very selective about new customers I take on. Unfortunately I have a short window cleaning season and I need to make top dollar so I stick with people that like to get windows cleaned and are not worried about whether they are getting a good deal.

Some guys are really very slow at cleaning french panes, much slow than regular windows, so they have to charge more than the competition because they won’t make a profit if they don’t.

If the competition is twice as fast as you is their lower price still low balling?

Well, haven’t heard of anyone saying that they charge 25¢ per pane. Even at 50¢ per pane it’s twice then what the HO said he paid. I’m not the fastest I doubt, but after 4 years of doing this I am certainly not the slowest. 478 panes is 478 panes worth of work one side no matter how you slice it. But hell, if I should reduce my per pane price simply because there is a lot of them to do I’m befuddled then when I should stop adding up the bill.
