My 34 ft gardiner CLX is raised that way. Now it is doing 2nd story homes 90% of the time. My 45ft SLX is used for a lot of 3 story work and I normally lean it on the building and walk it up the side. I did this same method with my 50 ft aluminum Tucker pole aka Telephone Phone as well. I have had water fed poles carelessly abused by employees and they havnt broken. I have had them fall over on concrete, thrown in the truck, etc… My opinion is you got shipped a faulty section or something happened during shipping and storage that you are not aware of.
