That’s why I’m getting out of gutter cleaning, just whitening for me from now on.
If they ask ā€œwhy not?ā€ I’d make something out like insurance costs or stuff like that, and that’s just I don’t sound rude being honest and telling them ā€œI hate it and you won’t pay me what is worth, but I still want to clean your windows :)ā€

I have some regularly recurring residential gutter cleaning customers where I blow off the roof, blow out the gutters, and collect and remove the debris. Gutter whitening doesn’t make sense at those (monthly, etc.) intervals.

It depends on the situation - small to medium home I at least want $1 - $2 per foot. I just wrapped up a 1200’ job from a townhome complex today - priced it at .75/ft. They still thought that price was too high, but they paid…Lots and lots of shingle granules caked in. Here’s some pics…

Not too many. Maybe 5 or 6 regulars 1 time per year. I hardly get calls for this work, and never really pushed it with fliers or anything. I will be this year tho! Its not really something I or my guys like to do AT ALL, and this is one of the reasons why I charge it like I do. But really, I go into it with the attitude that I really dont care if they want me to do it or not. I am not showing them I dont care, but if I’m gonna do it I would like to leave really really happy.

Just like when you get to that 8,000 sq. ft. house with frenchies all over and when you walk up, youre either thinking ā€œoh boy, I’m gonna be here all weekā€ or ā€œTHIS is gonna cost emā€ and throw em a bid of 2500 bucks on the first clean and 2 grand every time after for quarterly. Dont really want that monster anyway. Not when you got plenty of others that pay good money and youre outta there in a few hours.

Maybe I’m wrong, but thats how I see it.

I only do it because a few of my clients wanted it done and I figured better that they paid me instead of someone else.

Gutter cleaning accounts for 12% of our total revenue, I’m working to increase that to 20% as well as increasing the total revenue of course.

I do gutters at .50 to 1.50 LF. I must be to low. That Rain Flow upsell sounds like a great idea. I’m gonna give that a shot.

We charge .75 a foot for first floor and $1.50 for 2nd floor. We almost always end up making $50-$75 per hour with these prices. With some exceptions , had a couple jobs that freakin sucked. We scoop out debris, hose out the gutters and clean the down spouts.

Buddyo that avatar is scaring the crap outta me!

Me too!

I’m stealing your photos for my website :stuck_out_tongue: JK

How many gutter cleaning clients do you guys have each?

I’d say half of my yearly sales is made by gutter cleaning. Right now, Im up to my eyeballs in it  It averages out around $70 -$85 hour. I dont charge per liner ft. My fees are based on size, difficulty, sq footage, roof pitch, etc… it’s more of an hourly rate.

Feel free to use those photos for your marketing…plenty more where those came from.

Dormatex, on those pics I see your Ridgid vac … are you using it to suck the debris ?
I repeat, I hate gutters, but this week I gave tons of estimates for window cleaning, and noticed the gutters were really bad, so I’m leaving money on the table, but hate cleaning does, BUT a vac will be really helpful. Let me know about your experiences with it please.

Punta - if there were just regular debris like leaves and pine needles, I would say to scoop it out by hand. But these gutters had a TON of shingle granules in them - some areas were 3" deep worth. Hosing them made a mess, so we used two ridgid vacs - one is smaller portable, and the other you see in the pic is their largest model. BTW - you are going to need a couple extra hoses even for a one story. But looking forward, I would like to purchase an industrial barrel type vac - stronger motor, longer lasting, and less emptying of debris. But for $200 or so, go with a good ridgid or shop vac.

WOW! That is alot of work so the price makes up for it.

I charge $1.00 per linear foot, take a downspout apart if needed, or rehang a section, minor stuff. If I have to snake in the ground, or reseal a corner from leaking, then there’s additional charges… If the total footage is over 300ft, I’ll give a little discount, through in some downspout gaurds in the worse areas maybe. Living in WA, right now is the busy time for me to be doing gutters jobs, havent seen the sun for sometime now…

Leaves are not a big problem, I’d rather scoop them too, but I have your same problem, shingle granule. you make a mess trying to push that with pressure, and you cannot scoop that up. Lots of hose might be difficul to handle, but is worth a shot. Thanks

You can scoop out most of the shingle granules with a gutter spoon, and use a huck to push the rest of the granules ahead of you and wash the last bit down the downspout with a squirt bottle.

I did my first few gutter cleanings this week, they went well and every customer asked me to put them on the list for next year. I had lots of granules and gunk in most of the gutters, after I scooped the leaves out I just used a garden hose to wash it all down the downspout, no problems with it getting all over stuff. I like explaining to the homeowners that having the gunk sitting in the gutter will make it rust faster and that is the reason for washing them out. They thought I was a hero.
