Headphones in Customer's Homes?

I use the plextronics m50, it was like $20 but I think it’s discontinued. But I look for multi connect so I can hook up both my ipod and phone.

Oh and the battery on the m50 is good for 12hrs of audio books and music. For just phone use I think it’s good for like a week.

I use the LG ones that hang around your neck. I can field calls while doing commercial work as well. A lot of my residential work comes from my restaurant cleans, so I use one earbud. If it’s an account that needs to be done before opening, I sometimes put in both at low volume. For residential inside work, I generally pull them out unless they aren’t home at all during the clean.

The voices in my head get mad if I have headphones interupting thier conversation…them fellers can be dangerous if ignored!

On the serious side, I’ve always enjoyed being acutely aware of my surroundings and concentrating on the job at hand. I have no oppinion about headphones being right or wrong cuz it’s neither and it’s both. Depends on who you talk to.

Only 1 ear bud in. If they do talk to me I automatically rip it out of my ear to give full attention.

I don’t listen to music tho. Talk podcast like the Joe rogan experience and Adam corolla.

My favorite is listening to podcast doing drops on high rises. Zone out for 2 hours.

I listen to a lot of JRE too. Interesting dude that’s trying to figure out the world. Aliens thinking we’re crazy… animal videos… psychedelics… mma, and psychology. He’ll have some astrophysicist on and turn it into a 12 year old version of a national geographic special. I bet he gets bored.

I love music but I prefer to work without it.

As others have said, it is better to be cognizant of your surroundings. Especially on commercial and storefront jobs where vehicles and other machines may approach you. Not knocking those who put buds in, but I’m sure they are aware that practice marginalizes their situational awareness.

Additionally, listening to songs makes me acutely aware of the passage of time where in silence I can really get zen and the work day is done before I know it.
