Hey everyone,
Just wanted to get 1’st post out of the way. Soapboy is a long story that has nothing to to w/ window cleaning. I have been cleaning windows for 4 yrs or so, traditonal method. I am a mason by trade, brick, block, stone, and concrete. Also a long story and lots of personal opinions about the current state of residential construction.
I really enjoy window cleaning. Its hard work but like masonry, it is honest. And I don’t feel like I have been hit by a truck at the end of the day, also I am not filthy dirty when I get home.
I am going to be adding a wfp system. So I have been taking advantage of all the info this message board and the UK site has, (have?) to offer.
I just got my butt kicked by a house w/ 85 French panes. I couldn’t feel the tips of 3 of my fingers for a week. Enough of that. Time to add a wfp system. I dont mind ladder work, I have worked over a 100’ off the ground in construction. But I feel its kinda like the addage about riding motorcycles. There are two kinds of riders, those who have gone down, and those who are going to go down.
Well, enough out of me. Thanks for all the info. I’m sure I will have querstions once I get going w/ the wfp. I do know how to use the search function and I have already used it to make some of my decisions.
welcome soapboy:), this is a terrific site. My husband is a mason, does brick block concrete too, he helps me out when I need an extra hand. Good luck with your wc biz
Hi Soapboy - like you, I’ve dropped most the building work now, save a few jobs in winter.
Like all new trades - you’ll soon loosen up & relax a little more, saving your fingers from the pain of french!
Another from the construction industry! I was doin’ it too. Not masonry tho. Roofing, framing, and pretty much everything else. I tended for a mason for one day! HELL NO! NOW THATS hard work! Much respect to you.
You are gonna have a hell of a time finding a helper of your calibre.
Thanks to everyone for making me feel welcome here. I’m not a big “forum” guy so please bare w/ me. I will figure out how to post w/ an avatar soon. Like anyone needs to see my big mug, lol:rolleyes:
Funny that you mentioned that. I do all residential right now so I mostly work solo. But when I do need help on bigger jobs, the only guy I trust to do a good job is a kid who apprenticed w/ me doing stonework for a couple of years. He’s half my age so he’s still going strong doing masonry.
Yeah, after being in construction since I was about 15, I have done a little bit of everything myself, not much roofing though. I have banged my share of nails, sweated pipes, pulled wire, hung and finished drywall, laid tile, you know the drill.
I found the usercp link late last night. I will give this a shot but I couldn’t find any pictures that were less than about 1 meg. I guess I will have to figure out how to reformat a picture.
Thanks again,
