Mike,
Just an idea. I fill up a 6 gal plastic Jerry can with hot water at home before I leave. It stays warm for a long time. Its inside a heated van.
Great idea, thanks Mike!
Michael,
That six gallons plus 2 gallons in my bucket lasts me the day. I like it because I NEVER have to look for or bother people for water. Saves me time too.
I/we use 5 gallon buckets… with lids.
(I think I might be the odd man out, here)
- in the winter we also carry extra hot water in extra containers (not sure the size.)
In the winter I fill up one of those 5 gallon water coolers with hot water and when I refill my bucket I mix a little hot water to make warm water in my bucket. This way I have warm water all day. The water cooler keeps the water warm all day.
Stealing this idea. Thanks Mike!
apparently "CERTAIN " detergents chemicals in Hot water can let off vapors through the steam and get into your lungs !! A German window cleaner said he was taught this when doing his window cleaning course at his training school .Yes they have training courses for window cleaners . Gebäudereinigung schule( ung )
I suppose you guys are more glass cleaners and wiping the bottom Sill… wow if you seen how the frames are cleaned here you might look in awe… but cleaning frames in winter with cold water is a definite No No… if all i had to do was dunk my washer in my water cold water would not be an issue… but when you have to put your hands in there to wash cloths out thats just not possible .
Oh Yeh when people go on about hot water . they dont mean luke warm and the dont mean warm they mean a nice pleasant temperature. not boiling hot or so hot you cant put your hands in it. anything just warm will get cold very quickly especially if working outside… if the temperature is getting below zero . then i use just warm water when doing outside…
Now i know why you guys use cold water . your glass cleaners. lucky sods…
Tony,
Why would you say that?
PS
Are you referring to Gary Mauer’s post on Window Cleaning Network about 7 years ago?
John,
When I saw Mark Hendersons DVD on window cleaning I was amazed on how important it is to wipe down the frames on route work in the UK. In my area the biggest company doesn’t even wipe the water off the bottom sill.
I thought the jerry can for hot water was a good idea for winter. I also thought it was your idea. Just my way of saying I liked it.
Tony,
Thanks! I think the insulated cold drink cooler mentioned earlier in this thread is an even better idea. I may switch to that idea.
Tony,
Actually I didn’t get the HOT water idea from Gar. He posted the idea of carrying 3 six gallon Jerry cans of DI water for a backpack. Then I started carrying my storefront water in a Jerry can. When winter came putting hot water in there was common sense.
I use to slide a Jerry can into a large insulated heavy duty envelope they sell to keep food warm. I tapped it all up with duct tape.
You may not have gotten the idea from Gar but I’m pretty sure he makes his morning coffee with hot di water and drinks it with over moderated fabricating debris particles while staring at his cell phone hoping PaulWest calls him just to hear his voice.
