Next … it’s a numbers game. How do you know that , because you’ve done 100s of houses that size and got that price.
To bad WindowGenie didn’t know rhat
It’s not me that sets the prices it’s my close rate that does
Maybe widowgenie even did a bag up job. Who cares ?? Some people are just willing to work for cheap. That’s not my problem.
I love when they say the last guy. Well why are you calling me if your happy with him. And he’s cheap already. Are you really looking for cheaper ???
I felt like asking this one that , but just moved on. What ever day she would of been on the schedule still got filled Or In your case the neighbor already used someone with a good price
That’s a great response. I definitely could have responded more professionally. I was a little irritated.
I think that’s good advice to not take situations like that personally and just move on.
Yes, I think giving a price range is probably not helpful. I usually give a fixed estimate based on window count or square footage and emphasize I will do an exact quote the day of. Most people are super happy with that.
Really trying to nail down my process. I was finding that I was getting almost 100% of my bids so I’m experimenting with increasing my pricing.
I told her on the phone a housewash would be minimum $399 and the windows another $500…and that i would send her a formal estimate. She says ok…and I text her a few days later to schedule and she accepts…
I do all the work…a full day in the blazing sun…and send her the invoice.
She says she just now say the estimate and that it was much higher than what she expected. The lady went off the rails and became very unreasonable, as if I was trying to get over on her. I took a hit and made a note in my CRM to never serve her again under any circumstances.
I see that response all the time. I prefer the high end clients. I have had a few high profile ones this year, and it was a trip! The low-ballers don’t value the service so they can go with the guy who uses dirty towls and 6 month old squeegee rubber and has no insurance. shrugs
That’s the correct answer right there…as long as you know the sales process is the same. If you have sales people, then you have to make sure they’re performing up to their capability on close rate before you decide to adjust the price because of a low close rate…
I’ve been pretty fortunate over the years. Only a handful of ‘non compos mentis’ customers. I can’t even think of any that have really angered me this year. One job we did last week was completely coincidental. We were in a closed community and an old customer happened to call from that same community when we were there. She only wanted 6 outside windows done, so I said we’d come over after. They were easy enough to do, but the insides were filthy, the house was beyond filthy and smelly. I ‘took the money and ran’, feeling slightly bad for her that the clean windows didn’t make much of a difference. She calls 2 days later and says nothing looks different and can I come back and investigate. It’s not usually my style, but I haven’t replied yet. There is no way I’m going back in that house. I’ll sooner refund her with no admissions than return. Not too bad of a year if that’s the worst so far!
I have the same issue nearly 25% of the time this year. Changing services upon arrival. Some go from a $350 in and out to a lower only $125. I had 2 of those on Monday. 6 hr day became 3.5 really fast.
I think folks are getting nervous about the economy. Though the rich very seldom suffer the impacts of such economic issues.
On another note I went to UPS store to quote because he said he had two 10’ x 12’ windows that needed cleaning one time only. I asked for pictures and he said he couldn’t (we were texting). I asked about and stickers, etc. He said they were clean just needed a touch up. It was on my way home so I stopped by. There were 18 panes, three of them had giant partially removed stickers, they had tried and failed to remove them. I told $135 for windows and to get the stickers off. He said he had $50 cash and held it out. I said I had packages to ship to Idaho (I’m moving) and I’d match the discount he gave me. He laughed and said no thanks.
people like that grind my gears… That’s why we don’t do store fronts unless you own multiple locations. We’ve had one guy want us to regularly do his windows for free lunch because thats what he did for the homeless guy who used to clean his windows
Good on ya; love that so much.
Amazing what folks will try to get away with, and sadly there are people desperate enough to be taken advantage of in that very fashion. Shameful.
I have a lady that owes us from early last month and I’m losing patience. She came off as being the homeowner over the phone but my guys explained she was the cleaner hired for that property. Its a house being converted as a dental office.
It’s been 1.5 months and she hasn’t responded to any communications let alone paid. I guess I’m going to send a letter to that property owner asking them to cough up. Absolutely shameless…she went on a rant apparently about how she can give us more work etc…we don’t need more work, we needed to be paid.
that sucks. I’m in similar situations with too many businesses. I’m about to drop any that don’t have a card on file or pay same day. The old rule of 30 day has become 90+ day with several of them.
had another customer today that agreed to some work at a certain price, we did the work and he started to negotiate AFTER we finished. This was a job we didn’t want to do from the start but did it anyway because it was an old guy and I knew someone else would try to take advantage and over charge him.
turns out he took advantage of us instead.
this has been happening so often lately that it feels like this year we’re working for free lol
Zero chance on that…heck, I don’t negotiate beforehand. We get those guys, I thank them for their evaluation of our value, and let them know that we don’t apologize for paying our bills or staying in business until next year…every one of them I’ve said that to this year just went ahead and agreed to the price, booked us, and paid, one even referred his brother after
