How often should I change squeegee rubbers?

Ya chris if your doing resi yes, But if your doing route work I’m with Mathew :o

I went to culinary school an the question that was always asked was how long do I cook this for the answer till its done.

I was always under the impression you should change your rubber is when there no longer a sharp edge.

Same here . When stop doing his job is out.

The trick is to know when they stop working.

I agree with everything here but need to add that I think that pulex seems to be the worst of all the rubbers I have tried. I seem to only get half a day at most from pulex 14inch. While unger rubbers seem to last 2-3 days. After reading these posts I want to try ettore next. .

Money wasting king!!!

Not to be a troll but you most certainly DO NOT need to change rubber everyday.

I do mostly residential as well and use Ettore rubbers. I change them as needed. Usually once or twice a month. MAYBE three times.
Like others have said though you may have to just keep an eye on things until you find what works for you.
Oh and if you wanna see what kind of houses I do (with the same rubber that I used two weeks ago) check out my website. Www.thruglasswindowcleaning.com

I’m not trying to be a jerk but it seems like some people are telling you (a new window cleaner) that you should change your rubber everyday. That’s a huge waste of money. You can throw $$$ away that’s fine. I prefer to spend my extra cash on my bimmer.

I really depends on your location, method of squeegee action, cleaning method, and many other factors. I do houses like yours, and quite larger. Sometimes I’ll change out a blade 2-3 times on one massive house with all tdl. Sometimes it’ll last a couple days, but never a full month.

You never know until you do…

Some people like a fresh blade each job, some people, like yourself, like to stretch it out. If you think about how much money a $3-5 36" rubber makes you, it really isn’t a waste of money.

Quick side note I like your website Brandon.

So I’m really trying to be open minded, I’m trying to understand why you would change a rubber even once a day? Is there a nick in the rubber? Are they leaving streaks? Cause I guarantee all my work, as you can see on my site so me and my guys can’t be leaving streaks. I check every job after we are done. The biggest house I do is 30,000 sq ft and I haven’t found the need to change my rubber during or after. I honestly want to know what the benefit is to you ( so maybe I could benefit too:) ) I live in northern Michigan so we get a full range of weather from really hot and humid (usually highest is 90s) down to freezing weather. And I don’t notice any issue with my rubber for usually longer periods of time. I want you to sell me on this one PLEASE. :). What am I missing?

@ThruGlass
Very true. Hey if you are making a lot of cash then change out every window. I can use mine quite a long time. I’m not into speed work so I am quick but have the time so I learned that the rubber is fragile so using it to go bottom frames or sills can damage it prematurely. I rather wast a few seconds to grab my little worker blade to do that or if there were very dirty windows especially ccu or visible mud or dirt )sand) I will use an older blade to pre-clean the heavy stuff off. My blades last longer.
You know when your rubber starts acting weird. That is why we have channels already to go or extra handy blades. Some do hundreds of windows a day so sure its a drop in a bucket to change out. Other less glass so maybe every few days or every other week. Blades are like underwear, after a week just turn inside out for another week of wear. :stuck_out_tongue:

Since many here have chosen the brand and channel sizes they like you can afford to buy a stash. I wish instead of buying pre cut lengths the others should do like wagtail and offer by the meter lengths. They probably do but I like to make channels with different sizes so easier for me to get a long piece than buy a pkg of precuts. Use wagtail but started with steccone and now want more. It is how far can I “stretch the rubber”

About as often as I change my briefs

Weird that you got my picture. How did that happen?

Soooo once a week?

Like I said, you can get a good week before you turn them inside out. This type maybe a week and a half.

You change/flip as needed

a new blade will feel fresher and give you more confidence that nothing will be left behind , so all in all it will make the whole work experience feel much better. so for this reason and this reason alone i would change on a regular basis …

saying that i change my blades about 1 / 2 a month thats just the way i am…dont forget that after being flipped… and if you use danges squeegee holder and use it only for glass there is a good chance you can save alot on rubber costs if your that type of person

I change my rubber when it stops performing how I want it to. And thats that. Ive been doing this for 6 years.
