I think jen weld is giving me bs about low e coating

Mark, I would think they would put some stamp or use some other means to identify this glass but I’m sure they don’t care if the window cleaner doesn’t know. Which is why I would say to your second question that this becomes a handy way for window manufacturers to eliminate razor use on glass.
The strange (no pun intended Mark) thing is that the people that are looking to dump this standard on the market are very subtle (if not devious) in the way they are bringing it out. No one seems to have a clear written statement on the reasons and numbers on this new code.
The most curious thing about this is where FD is concerned. Many of us have seen the reaction that FD has when exposed to FD so if they are going to coat all sides they have to have made the tempered FD free. If they can do it for this glass why not all tempered/heat strengthened?

Poking around a bit they may be doing it this way to reach better energy efficieny not a new code. It may or may not have something to do with the tax credit that is tied to energy efficiency.

Try dual low e coating

my buddy said they used to have something like this on glass but it’s been at least 20 years since he’s seen any.
he thinks they either made them wrong or it’s something they came out with. and suggest you get them to send you some info about how to clean them. if they can’t provide that to you he said personally, he’d pass on the job. to cover your ass.

IT says to clean with mild soap don’t use a razor, sticker says TWP DUAL LWE

What a rediculous attempt to meet some supposed code that isn’t even law yet! If the manufacturers were really interested in creating a more efficient window unit, with more of this <i>fantastic low-e coating</i>, wouldn’t it make sense to make the windows double insulated, with the coating on surfaces 2 through 5, leaving the exposed surfaces (1 and 6) untreated?

I’m sure they could achieve the same efficiency w/ a triple pane window. It’s just cheaper to throw a couple extra coatings on their existing window line and not worry about the end user.

having a wider spacer also increases the window’s R value. I’m betting these windows in question probaby have a 1/4" spacer like the cheap stuff from home depot.

Take a look at this page of Jen Weld’s website R-5 Window | JELD-WEN Doors & Windows. It says that the Department of Energy newest window rating is an R-5. It doesn’t say how they achieve this rating, though. Their site also lists an available glazing option that says there are 3 low E coatings (called low E 366). If there are 4 surfaces and 3 are low E then one of them has to be exposed(facing out). Their suggested cleaning method is baby shampoo and water for all their windows.

well here again, jeld wen is going about achieving this the wrong way if the above is true about the E 366.
