If you could travel back in time what would you tell your younger self?

About business specifically.

Do your homework!

I wouldn’t know as much as I do now if it wasn’t for the experience of life. However I should have started window cleaning in my early 30’s part time for the therapeutic factor and extra income.

You don’t have to do ALL the work.
Being “the Horse” is overrated.

Be willing… no, EAGER to teach your replacement.

All depends on how far back…

If elementary and Jr. high I would tell myself to forget baseball and music, hang out with the odd lot which is reading Lord of the Rings; cause they’ll go on to into the IT world and do really damn well.

If back to college: fail often, more marketing.

Then once you get back from the past, you find out you never had those kids, due to the newfound business knowledge.
Don’t mess with time travel…

Nothing will change.
Because “Whatever Happened, Happened.”

You always went back in time, you just haven’t done it until now, your present.
And whatever you (think) you did to change things, actually created your current situation.

I would have told myself to take advantage of being able to play sports in college and worry about the financial stuff later. I was the first in my family to go to college but rather than go to a big school and play a sport like I had the opportunity to, I stayed local, went to a private school, worked full time and took 3 years longer to graduate and spent $20k more. Mostly because I didn’t leave any time to network, party, and join social groups because I chose to work full time as well, which leaves you lacking in the contacts department.

I believe I would still end up in the industry but life is about who you know. Who knows who I would end up knowing and how much faster I would have ramped up my business by now. I setup my business the way it is now after working for many sales organizations and professional service organizations learning how to be a service company.

I would probably tell myself to take a step back and look at the bigger picture of things more often.

id tell my younger self a few things:
-start business earlier
-don’t add blind cleaning
-do more local work
-do more residential and less highrise
-better separation of work time and family time earlier
-get multiple bank accounts (for better expense tracking, taxes etc)
-take credit cards to book appointments
-create a forum called windowcleaner.com
-don’t eat that taco bro… trust me

Start a window cleaning business and never get into CCU work. Keep it simple!

Honestly? There are a lot of things I’d probably try and tell myself, but nothing that I wasn’t already being told by other mentors. So it would probably be a wasted trip
