I recently had about $150 worth of squeegees stolen from me and my sister.
It stinks too because I usually always unload and lock everything.
I do remember leaving a bucket of squeegees on the bed of the truck, very briefly, but now they are gone. I think I might of thought that I already locked them in the toolbox and just didn’t realize alot were missing. I live in Las Vegas so that explaines it.
If anyone has any heads up about stolen squeegees please IM me as a private message or call 702.301.7699. Td. I will keep it confidential if you know anything.
If you are the thief and are on this forum, which I doubt, please do all of us a favor and leave this forum. This site is only for hardworking, ethical professionals who have put blood, sweat and tears into their businesses.
Lock those tools up or even better put them in a garage. Just a warning to all because it could happen in a blink of a eye.
True, it can happen in the blink of an eye but so can a knock out punch right on the chin!
Thats horrible man, sorry to hear that. I’m sure you got back ups right? Dont forget to check craigslist for some crackhead selling your stuff.
I have had alot of people tell me they ve had alot of stuff stolen at Home Depot, pressure washers, ladders you name it. Hasnt happened to me yet, but I’m sure it will.
That really stinks, Jerry. As you know, I’ve been accustomed to leaving my vehicles unlocked and the keys in them when in towns and at home overnight. I still do while out and about quite often, but never overnight anymore. Unfortunately, I don’t trust a certain ex-employee any further than I can throw him. A sad reality even in the sticks!
Salvatore’s got a good idea, to check on Craigslist.
I have plenty of backups and one small house will get my return back. At least it wasn’t my ladders which were alot more expensive. I seen on WCR some kind of ladder lock that looks more secure that those cheap locks you can buy at walmart. Worth looking into.
Thx tony for the advice. I will check Craigslist. That loser better hope I don’t find him.
Dont get hot-headed if you find him. Chances are if you get lucky and do find him- he really IS a crackhead or a speed freak- maybe a heroin junkie- any three of these people put zero value on life, and speaking from experience (was never a user, but have been away from my family for many years), unless you really THINK…it may be best to call a cop or simply eat the loss.
If you go after the guy, he may be prepared in areas you may not be. In no way am I questioning your manhood…all I am saying is, life is too short to be away from the people you love. Know what I mean? Sleep on it man. I am sure you will feel different in the morning.
That sucks man…but who the heck steals squeegees anyways? All my tools are in my cargo van, and I always lock it up, Plus I put mesh on the windows, and welded a small piece of flat steel so that even if someone breask my window, they won;t be able to reach the lock. Now let’s just hope I never lock myself out. Good luck getting them back.
Then again - it could be worse. My brother was working for a guy, the boss’s checks started bouncing, so my brother had to quit. When he went back to get his tools, they were all gone. $30,000 worth of Snap On tools in a custom cabinet. GONE! The boss guy played stupid, erased his surveillance hard drive - And the police won’t do a darn thing about it. Geesh.
Definitely sound advice Tory. Yeah I am just going to eat this one. That last line I said I was just joking. I would never want anyone to pull out a gun or knive on me all over stupid squeegees.
Thieves are everywhere these days with the tough economy. My brother lost his whole power washing setup two months ago (Van, trailer, Pw"ers). 20 K gone instantly overnight. Found his van 3 days later in a bad part of town with the steering column peeled but it was just minor damage. I have had locks punched out of one of our vans at the shop and ladders were stolen a few years ago. $500.00 was my loss.
I recently installed Zoombak tracking devices on all of my vans so that I can track my guys and potential vehicle theft. You have to start thinking like a theif these days to stay ahead of these low lifes.
Man, sorry to hear that. When u guys tell me these horror stories it certainly makes my loss look like a drop in the bucket.
Does anybody know where I can buy bulletproof and bolt cutter proof ladder locks because I am sick of constantly loading and unloading my ladders of the ladder rack?
How much does a tracking device cost? I think we all have to take extra precautions this day and age. It’s a sad fact of life but it can be avoided if we watch our surroundings.
Jerry,
I posted on here about Zoombak BPS tracking and no one seemed interested. You can buy it online or get one at radio shack. It is very inexpensive compared to other GPS tracking devices on the net. I paid $149.00 for the unit with the wiring for automoble installation. Just zip tie the holder under the dash(where it isnt noticible) and run the one single black wire directly to your fuse box and you are done. I can track my guys 24/7 with updates every 5 minutes. If you are on vacation, you simply text zoombak your pin and van # and it will text you back the location of your vehicle within a minute down to a street address. The service is $9.99 a month if you pay for the service for a whole year in advance. It Is AWESOME and super cheap compared to what is out there.
As for locks, I use Kryptonite cables but a bolt cutter can easily cut through them. My stuff is garaged now so I dont worry as much about locks at night.
Lowes carries chain that is very hard to cut. I believe that it is virtually bolt cutter proof. Its a real B!tch for the guy at Lowes to cut it when I bought some years ago.
I got ripped off last fall fall. I lost my comic book collection(spiderman from the late sixties/early seventies), $8 grand in cash, three tv sets, all my tools, and my army knife that my grandpa got from WW2. It’s not the economy it’s just i was a white boy living in a black neighborhood. If I was home they would have killed me.
Before you go with the lion you can get some oil paint. Harder to remove. Grab a 1 inch paint brush and paint your company name down the sides of your ladders as big as you can make them. Not 100% full proof but it will make someone think twice because they sure cant be placing them on their roof racks until they paint it or get it off. I use heavy duty nylon ratchet tie down straps to hold on my ladders. I use the big ones cause they have a hole you can put a standard pad lock tough. Won’t stop them 100% but sure as hell makes it hard for them to get off. Unless I get the smart guy who figures out he can put a screw driver in the broken button that removes the roof rack then he can just unload the hole rack. Sorry to hear about your loss man. That sucks.
