Lowballer rejected

I after I finished one of my jobs the other day, They told me that some one stopped in to offer their service.
The owner told this guy well you can’t beat what I’ve already got. He tells him that I come on a regular schedule, take care of everything, and he’s not interested.
The lowballer responds by asking what I charge him, so the owner tells him, and the lowballer cuts my price in half!
The owner smiles and tells the lowballer to have a nice day my window cleaner will be here this afternoon.

It’s nice to hear of customer loyalty in storefront work. It’s almost unheard of here. Good for you!

That’s the kind of customer you want. One who is pleased with your business and isnt scared to pay a fair price for it.

When I used to work route for another company this happened daily.

We lost very few due to this

We probably lose 1 or 2 a month to this… Its been happening a bit more lately with the economy.

It sure is great when your customer backs you up and supports you though.

It is also important to note that “high-ballers” are also trying to
get these jobs and are getting turned down.

A content customer really does not want to be bothered with this
and does not give either low or high priced companies much of their time.

To me a low-baller has nothing to do with this, it’s called competition.

I had a chain of high end grocery stores and they got hit daily by every
company, even out of state companies.

Nobody could get their foot in the door the whole 3 years. I had no contract.

We do the same thing, but most call us back after about four or five months.

I know this may sound radical, but how about giving them a one off free clean as long as they sign up with you for a year & with a price lock?

These commercial gigs are usually pretty quick & because you have done them so many times, you will probably be quicker than any new comer & you’re got the windows at there prime condition. If its done monthly - what are you loosing? It may be a good argument for clients that head for the cheap/poor service option due to the economy.

I have a lot of them in my area. New ones are starting as we speak. They even brag on this board all the time.

What are “they” bragging about?

Your customer is a man who knows how to do business! That was a cool story man. Its nice to hear about customers who are loyal.

Any thoughts on this? Would you give a free clean on a monthly & price-lock them in for a year?

No. I would expect the loyalty. I know it does not happen as often with commercial accounts as it does with domestic customers, but if you are providing a good service why should anyone sack you? If you shop in the same shop for months or years, the shop owner does not give you free food do they?
Its a very nice thought, karlosdaze, but I think us window cleaners are too soft sometimes!..

thats awesome. its hard to find that kind of loyalty in the light commercial market. must be doin a helluva job, keep it up!
