Seems about right from my experience. Unless the owner wants to wear that hat and essentially have two full time jobs. Not fun.
They should be able to fill in a day or two. If the office person is out sick. Take messages, handle minor stuff. Not all the sales and scheduling related things.
You mean a $60k profit distribution, right?
Chris maybe you can help my thought process along. How would your blue print change if crews could only average $800 a day? Bergen county is very wealthy, I operate in a more blue collar area. Thanks for your help!
The more I run the numbers from every angle and seeing what is involved I am lead to the same question. Is it better to run a profitable 5 man crew business that grosses around 700k?
oh wow a crew doing 800, 400 per person, that would seem tough
seems like itâs sweet spot city in this industry unless youâre a James Bond nemesis driven to be the first 20 mil top dawg
lol
QuestionâŚ
Cant you automate most everything, besides the labor?
So the overhead to get to your sweet spot is less costly long term and quicker.
A lot of software will help in the automation. I think the biggest key to profit is what the techs in field generate each day. The key seems to be closer to what Micheal Gerber professes in the E-Myth.
How many hours a day do your crews work?
Busy season:Minimum 4 crews a day. We meet at 7:00(on the clock). At their first jobs by 8:15, finish 3:00. At least one crew works Saturday during busy season.
Slow season 3.5 men average 32 hours a week.
I also need help om how to have girl in office on incentives(profit/sales sharing). Can you give me a quick hourly salary and percentages of sales over the phone she gets. Repeat customers different then new customers?
Man I was just going to ask the exact same question. I am just bringing on an office manager and I am racking my brain on how to use incentives on top of base pay.
You canât replace a friendly, inviting and energetic voice on the phone. The only way I see to have an employee have that type of attitude regularly is for them to benefit from a cheerful attitude.
Chris. Thanks for your input so far. Couple questions. 1. Would you have the op manager manage the sales staff or would the owner manage the sales staff? 2. Can you be more specific on the owners roles. You stated marketing/sales would be 60%. Do you mean that you personally would be doing sales, or just managing the sales team?
a dollar ainât always worth a dollar. the revenue comparisons are moot unless you factor in cost of living by region, etc.
My first thought would be to have your people work longer days. We did what mostly amounted to 10 - 12-hour shifts. Maximize the daylight. If you have younger guys, this can work. Guys with families not so much.
Consider 1% of tickets completed if your looking for a blanket solution. 1% of work they schedule book and help coordinate. Stuff they are directly involved in.
Our phone people were paid a small base salary and then a commission. Usually, it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 - 12 bucks an hour with a 1% bonus on top.
I also used sales incentives and spiffs that changed daily. They were usually based around certain goals that need to be accomplished that day.
IE: $100 bucks to the person that gets me $5,000 worth of work in x zip code.
My guys are family guys. Some have been with me for 22 years. For the last 2 years I have started hiring younger guys to achieve longer work days. Your comment rings true. I think I will view the older guys as steady trustworthy income and start additional crews of younger guys. The percentage for office person is perfect. Thanks again.
Iâm in a bit of âbystander modeâ right now, Iâve got some time off for a change and have been ripping out carpet for the past two days.
But I AM watching.
@Chris I started to comment/compliment you on your âworking days for the monthâ numbers.
I doubt anyone noticed like I did, but Iâm much more your speed, in that sense.
(I was going to correct the "7 month part and shift mine from May to Dec butâŚ)
THIS is what made me commentâŚ
Chris is polite and helpful.
Iâm more blatant.
I work 6 hrs/day in FEBRUARY.
I admit Iâm glancing through this thread since last post, but Come oooonâŚ
