Thanks Dan… I do plan on running some specials. Some of those X number of windows for X dollar amount type of stuff. I don’t really plan on having my wife out there cleaning windows. Although I’m sure she would step right in if I needed her to.
I’m going to coach my wife in:
sales, marketing, inbound and outbound phone calls, mailers, door hangers, advertising, marketing research, managing the workers (hopefully employees one day), accounts payable/receivable, collections, permiting, obtaining large accounts, social media advertising, website optimization, supplies… etc… etc.
I have this massive business plan in my head that I need to find time to get onto paper, even if it doesn’t look pretty at first. I’m going to step into service markets with my business. I’m going to advertise HARD… I want to one day expand my business into a massive Premier Residential Service company. I live in the fourth largest city in the US with a population of 2,145,146 (2011 census). The vast majority of service companies I have encountered or have done business with since I have become a home owner for over 10 years, all did a really poor job of marketing, advertising, website, customer communication, etc. Their is a service company in Houston that I have seen grow so much over the years since I was a kid. They started out doing Pest Control, then Lawn Care, then Pool Service, then Security Systems, now they do A/C and Heating. Pest Control, Lawn Care, Air Conditioning - ABC Home & Commercial Services It’s called ABC Home and Commercial Services… Now that is what I’m talking about!!! Maybe they are a bad example to use as a model because they get lots of complaints. But you get my point… Why stop at Window Cleaning, or Gutter Cleaning, or Pressure Washing. Start somewhere, learn it, perfect it, and slowly add on additional services as you go, being careful that you don’t bite more than you can chew.
Personally, that is my goal. I want to do Window Cleaning, Gutter Cleaning, Pressure Washing, Carpet Cleaning, Janitorial/Maid Service, Lawn/Landscaping Care, Pest Control, Home Security Installs, Audio/Video Installs, Pool Service, Solar Panel Installs, Gutter Install… you name it. The way I see it, why stop at just one service, you are already in their home or office, what else can provide for them. With the right attitude, research, personnel, training, assets, etc… there is nothing you can’t do. As long as you don’t fall into the trap of “Jack of all trades, master of none!” you will be successful. That is why you hire the right people, make all of the right investments, obtain the right equipment and training and don’t let anybody get in your way.
OK… I’ll wake up from this little dream of mine now…LOL
