Hi Sharen,
Dange here, If you take a regular squeegee handle…Unger, Ettore and look at it side ways you’ll see that there is a 45 degree angle to it. That’s pretty standard for most handles.
The Ledger has more of an angle, which makes it easier to finish out ledges higher then you can reach by hand, mostly when using it with a pole !
Now the 0-degree when looked at from the side is absolutely straight, from bottom to top…no angle at all !
When using it from the floor under a skylite your able to make straight pulls with not much of a problem finishing it out ! It works really great on most skylites even high ones. Remember to have a drop cloth handy to catch the drops of dirty water that sometimes falls.
Also the point Tony (The Mega Mid-West Cleaner) made showed a pretty good process to do skylites, you can also use that process to fix any holidays you may leave or you can put a chunk of 0000 steel-wool on the end of your pole to fix any holidays, when using a squeegee.
It gets you off the ladder, keeps you from getting baked up in the skylite, lets you move through the job more effectively. I always keep one on my work belt just in case I need it !
Now, not with every skylite can you use one, it really depends on the skylite and the way it is built into the roof but I find that with about 80 to 90 % of them I can use the 0-degree ! It can also be used in a lot of other situations, you’ll find that it will come in real handy once you get past getting use to it !
Just about 28 years ago, before the 0-degree was even invented or manufactured, I took my standard Ettore handle and set it faced down on the ground and stepped on it and flatten it so that it was straight, I did a little tweaking then put my channel back in and waa-la I had the 0-degree years before one was ever on the market !
The Unger seems to have one of the better ones, but to this day I still tweak an Ettore handle.
I hope this will give you a little insight into the 0-degree. Get yourself one you’ll love it, I’ll guarantee it Sister !
