can you guys and gals grill my flier? Maybe check it out tell me what I am doing wrong or right? I am looking to put this door 2 door. Using it along the lines of a 5 around mostly. Thanks for the help!
Scotty I am going to PM you!
Do you want my opinion? (think about this as I do not hold back)
Well I already know it sucks and that it is pretty terrible. This is my first flier so I am learning as I go. The reason I put it up here is for help. It will not only help me but it may help others as well. I can take it don’t worry. I just want a decent flier that will pull in more work. thanks again.
I already know one thing Paul’s going to say… Don’t put your name at the top. That’s not important to the customer until they know what you can do for them. :D:D:D
My immediate reaction to your flier is that it is too large. Having owned several businesses and used door to door fliers an a method of advertising products and services, anything larger than an envelope goes straight in the trash. When your prospective customer recieves your flier, they’ll do one of two things to it, they’ll put it on the counter where they put their mail, or they’ll put it in the trash. Yours has a high probability of going in the trash becuase it doesn’t “fit” on the counter. Remember, your flier is sharing space on the counter with the other mail, so it has to fit in that area. Full sheets of paper don’t fit. Having shared that idea with you, I should mention that I’m just starting back in to the window washing trade, after a fifteen year absense, so I’m no expert. Of all the businesses I’ve owned, doing windows is the most fun, and the money ain’t too bad either. Best of luck.
Actually, it’s not as bad as you think. You might want to put a catchy phrase at the top instead of your name. make them want to read on. I would emphasize the benefits to them for using you (no need for them to climb ladders, you’ll do a better job, keep their windows from staining up, etc.) The rest of it looks perfectly good.
I do not have time to review it at the moment but I do have some comments on advice given.
It is not too large. That is absurd and an uneducated response.
It is a terrible flier (yes, as bad as you may think) and what is a catchy phrase? Don’t do that!
The good news is that is how we all start out and this can easily be improved. My fliers were not far from this when I started doing them. I see many roadblocks you have to impede the effectiveness of this flier.
I will try to get on later today and give my thoughts on ways you may make it more welcoming and interesting. (both categories are vacant on this one)
My wife wants to go shopping now…
Here are 11 tips that will help you make this flier better that what you’ve got now…
Kevin even has a system in place for answering questions.
My latest blog covers a lot of the issues I have with this flier. To save me from typing a million words, check it out No more crappy fliers
Cool, THanks for your help guys. I guess today I will get cracking and see what I can come up with. thanks again
I read Kevin’s book about 5 months ago and it has really help change the way I think about my marketing material.
I am a major cheap-o, but I have since loosened the pockets in order to present a better image, still not as much as I should, but it has helped. If you have the time, read his book. Actually, even if you don’t have the time, try to read his book.
Not that money alone equates into marketing success, but I would argue that it is an important element. The knowledge and wisdom that you will get from his book is just fantastic.
Fliers do not need to be full color UV to emanate some elusive image. They need to say something people want to read.
I have put out tens of thousands of fliers and b/w on colored stock still rules the roost. I do not know why and I do not care.
Basically you can spend $10,000 on beautiful fliers and they can tank. “Image” or not.
Results matter not presumption.
Any color work better than another? What about pics on the color paper? Do you normally run just the logo or do you add pictures as well?
Thx very much, I appreciate the kind words!
Too bad I’m sold out of those books!
I have read countless articles on color when it comes to cards and fliers. I have asked several successful marketers what they think. I have tried all the basic colors. My best conclusion is yellow.
This varies from person to person but I found it the most consistent.
I do not really use pictures in b/w but I feel images are fine. Real pictures of things do not work well in b/w, but generated images can work pretty good.
I put my company name at the bottom
WOW … Did that really open my eyes reading the ( NO MORE CRAPPY FLIERS ) article. Being a home owner and a former window cleaner myself really said a lot in that article.
I get fliers on my door by the dozen on a weekly basis … yeah a lot of them are for pizza places but the majority is exterminating companies , carpet cleaners , satellite tv. And then i get the window cleaner fliers … Yes they all had the 10 % off coupon and talked about how much better they were than others.
I even called on one of them and i talked to a guy. He answered the phone pretty un professional with the music blaring in the back ground and talking to his girlfriend at the same time as we were talking … I am thinking to myself WOW this guy must be making millions since he conducts business like this ( YEAH RIGHT !!! ) LOL. He asks me how many windows i have and i just throw out a number and i hear him doing the HMMMMMMM thing and he tells me a price. He does not ask if i have any sun screens or if my house is a 2 story. By the way the price he gave me was dirt cheap like 55 cents a window … I am just thinking WOW he must like to work for nothing and the guy probably stole a squeegee from the gas station and bought or stole a bottle of generic window cleaner from a 99 cent store and now he is a window cleaner all of sudden. I have 15 double hung windows with sunshades and 10 picture windows that are 6ft x 10ft with sunshades on them since the sun hits on them 75 % of the day. I also have a 50x50 shop that holds my toys with a casita. It has 5 regular sized windows.
So anyways as i am talking to this guy all of a sudden i hear him say
OH F_ _ K … my ciggarete just fell on the floor. This guy is making me laugh … Really !!!
The moral of this is … The guy came up with a decent flier and i was just calling to see what he was about as i am sure some of you have called others to see what they were all about. I just told him i was just thinking about having my windows cleaned and i will keep him in mind. ( YEAH, NOT )
I could only imagine him pulling up to my house with his stereo blasting that you could tell his speakers were overloaded and crackling and out comes this guy in a wife beater tank top and a ciggarette hanging to one side of his mouth and him smelling like he woke up from a overpass with his ripped off gas station squeegee and 2 gallon bucket.
Maybe thats how he got his DBA name as ECONOMY WINDOW CLEANERS.
Now you are making me laugh
Economy, should be Economic I guess, is at least better that CHEAP
