New customer vs returning customer

On average, what percent of your jobs each week/month are new customers?

What percent of your jobs are returning?

I am shocked by how pleased people generally are to hear from me when I call them after 6 months or so.
I can see how this business only gets better with time if you keep in touch with your customers…

Despite the economy I have only had one customer that decided not to have us clean their windows this year.

Okay people, just in case you skimmed past this last statement without giving it much thought, please stop and think about it hard.

The best way to grow this business is to form relationships with your clients and maintain that relationship throughout the year. Don’t just assume or hope they’ll call back. Send out reminder letters, holiday cards or newsletters to keep your clients reminded that you are their ‘go-to’ company for window cleaning and any other service you offer.

When we sign up a new client our goal is to get them to commit to at least three cleaning per year. Spring, summer, fall, not all go with it but a good many do. We do mostly residential so its important to have repeat customers.

I did not realize how much my residential business was repeat instead of new until taking the survey. I looked back at the last 50 residential jobs and only 3 were brand new, so I guess I should focus more attention to the new customer business to assure yearly growth.
Thanks for the eye opening survey!
