I have thought of this in the past with my janitorial company. I would love to talk to him about how he did it. If there is any way you could find out if he would be willing to talk to me, I would greatly appreciate it.

I operate my business for pleasure. I have a day job that provides for myself and my family. I started my company (janitorial side) so that I could pay a living wage to custodial employes and take less profit for myself. Other companies around here pay minimum wage and through 1099 less than minimum. I wanted to give these workers a wage that they could actually live on.
I have thought it would be great to tie it into a non profit some how but have not found a viable avenue.
Just a backstory for those of you who think all non profits are just avoiding taxes.

So they can be non profit because they serve people with disabilities?
They hire people to do jobs that they are able to handle. That is cool. But why does that allow you to be not for profit? Walmart does that too.

So I’ve been thinking, how do I pitch this to my local chamber of commerce? Just off the top of my head. Hi, I’m Joe So and so, I run a non profit charity organization that provides low cost home maintenance services for the elderly, physically, disabled and those on fixed incomes who can not afford the going market rate. For the price of cup of coffee a day you can pay to have their windows cleaned several times a year and it’s totally tax deductible!
I suppose it seems to much like a scam. Yet for all intents and purposes building a business from scratch with all the costs involved to become and be successful you’re basically are non profit because you have no profit to speak of trying to climb out of the red.
