Went out to bid a large school today. The majority of the windows were pellas, Designer Series. The exterior were just flat single panels. The interior panel was actually on hinges and swung open for cleaning. The problem I see is that the metal blinds between the panels are tilt only, meaning they are anchored to the top and bottom of the frame. Anyone ever deal with this, and if so is there a way to clean the interior of whichever panel the blinds are anchored to? Meaning is there a way to detach the blinds or should we simply skip cleaning the panel with the blinds attached? If I’m not being clear please let me know and I can be more descriptive. Any and all help, as always, is appreciated. The guy at the school had me convinced the blinds couldn’t be removed and I didn’t see any means of it either.
I havn’t had any experience with that kind of window, but there has to be a way to detach the blinds. Have you tried calling one of the local Pella represenatives?
I’ve seen these before. We pulled out the insert, had a man hold the blind back, and another man clean the glass. You cannot remove the blind, nor do you want to. It is enough of a mess as it is.
Thanks guys. I was going to stop by a local pella shop today and ask but I’m leaning towards just not even messing with them. They look like they could end up being a huge problem and the job will be big enough as it is if we are awarded it.
Detach string at top (I unscrew rather than mess with knot on string), remove inside pane (I mean pain), set on easel to clean. Lift blind to up/open position and remove. Charge accordingly. Wouldn’t be a bad idea to go to the Pella store for some schooling.
I agree with the other guy’s, these things are doable, but a pain.
We did a big house like this some months back, with about a 100 or so of those bad boys. The householder had tried to clean them, but went crazy about it. I looked at it, knew the hassle, quoted $1750.00 in & out, and he didn’t even blink…he said “when can you do it”.
I then also got the Pressure Washing and cement cleaning, so the hassle turned into a nice big job, that’s now on a schedule.
This job is so large and a lot of them are interior ladder work. I’m not sure we want the guys messing with these while up on a ladder. No chance of getting a lift in here either so even thats out of the question. Thanks for all the input though. Always appreciated!
