I now feel sorry for you!
“Cleaned” 55 panes of this today. What a terrible idea low -e on side 4 is. Needless to say, the stain that was overapplied to the wood frame didn’t come off the glass, nor did the silicone from the installation. Not to mention the tape residue that was supposed to mask the stain. Poor homeowner was proud of how much they spent on these windows, but wasn’t too happy when I told them to speak with their pella rep if she wanted them clean clean. I am sure there are ways to properly clean these, but why make it a PITA.
Other than using barkeepers friend, are there any suggestions to clean? Or just pass on them in the future…
If you think they are hard to clean try to repair a pella window.
Pella totally sucked before now they are apparently worse.
I have been telling our customers to never EVER buy pella windows for a good 15 years. Simply because they are a pain to fix when broken. Pella wants you to go back to them and pay double for the whole window sash. We can fix any given Anderson or other IG unit for less than half. Or we usually fix the pella by chopping it up and putting it back together if the customer is not so picky.
PELLA STINKS never buy one unless you never break windows.

Maybe we should start a web site devoted to pella haters
Www.pellasucks.com
Sorry guys…i feel better now
Pella is the company noted for having more bells and whistles as part of their windows compared to any other company. unfortunately they apparently buy these bells and whistles from the dollar store.
In my part of the world, I’d say that 80% of my residential jobs have Pella windows, so I have probably disassembled and cleaned at least 10,000 of them. I don’t like the newer Designer Series windows much, but by now I’ve done a few hundred of them. When I first saw them, I was irritated and intimidated. But by now I’ve (mostly) figured them out.
If you have a bunch of Pellas in your ares, then I think the key is to learn to love them, learn well how they come apart and become your area’s Pella specialist and then charge accordingly. Many (or most) homeowners are intimidated by Pellas and would rather not lose an entire weekend or more trying to clean them on their own. I know that I’d rather do a house with the older style Pellas with inserts than to do a bunch of Double-hungs with storms.
This may be a stupid question but how do u know if they are made by pella?
They brand themselves well. They have their name on everything, including door handles. Some of the windows are regular double pane, some are double pane but they have clips on the sides that allow you to open the double pane up, some open up and have blinds on the inside of the two panes. Thats all that I can think of at the moment, baby has been up all night and I’m exhausted
You could also put some Slayer powder on the magic eraser to save a little elbow grease.
Ooh, remember mistersqueegee’s Slayer powder? Such a great product! mistersqueegee , any chance of bringing this back to the masses?
You can generally tell the window is made by Pella if the design makes you mutter or think “WTF?!” when youre cleaning them.
Can you elaborate? Please

Hi Steve,
I would love the opportunity to have a go round with them. If you are OK with the idea, maybe you could get me a contact name and email? I won’t badmouth their products. I made ten thousand bux once off a resty job in Amherst NH once. All Pella IG cutups. 1974 cutups with sodium stains on 494 of them evenly spread throughout the house. 80 K to replace. 10K to restore. Insurance paid the bill. The cure? Diamond compound and paper towels. Do you want some? Ask Chris. The problem was caused by a paint company that powerwashed in prep for the paint. They used a product based on a sodium metasilicate and sodium carbonate.
My email direct is
I too am aggravated but own them and can’t afford to replace them. Thanks for all the suggestions. At least I know I’m not alone with this frustration.
We are walking away from a job as well-don’t need the aggravation.
