I know we’ve been thru this before but I was thinking about a couple of specific situations where you would have to remove the storms to properly clean the windows. The most obvious is when you work alone. It is quicker to remove the storm for cleaning than shuffling the windows twice - once on the inside and then once on the outside. The second is w/ single hung windows or when the top pane is painted shut.
This is one of the private schools that we do. There is about 280 storm windows on this building of about 500 windows. We don’t have to remove any of the stroms to clean them. This building takes 2 days for 8 guys to clean.
Are they single hung or double hung windows?
they are double hung
Tony, some in the front are leaded glass
Out of curiosity how do you guys clean leaded glass?
Hey Tony,
We’ve been through this before. Some of us say the storms stay in and others say they have to come out. I work alone and leave them in most of the time. Tollins Window Cleaning have it down pat. I learned my system from them right here on this forum. Thanks Hunster. Did I get your name right? This topic is kind of like a soap war.
We also leave them In.
Point taken Mike.
I still ain’t shuffling them it takes too long!
I hear ya, Tony.
I still ain’t taking them out it takes too long!
Now for the $64,000 question - What do you do about the screen? The vast majority of storms I deal w/ require the lower storm panel be removed to remove the screen.
Most of the storms , over here in NE are triple track storms, the ones you are talking about have to be removed for cleaning, The only ones like that around here are really old
Obviously we aren’t talking apples to apples when comparing storm jobs. I rarely ever come across a true triple track storm here.
Apples and Oranges. Does that mean the debate is over?
There’s always soap, Mike
I clean most by hand unless the glass is in real good shape then I use the pole.
It is for me since I know we are dealing w/ different storm types.
When you do them by hand are you using regular solution or foaming glass cleaner or DI/alcohol or something else?
I’m a take 'em out man myself.
I use regular solution w/Dawn
