I agree , don’t mistake this one thing I do as a judgment on myself. I know your not "just saying ". I respect you an admire what you have accomplished in the wimdow cleaning industry . With that said I’m most likely (an it’s not like I get calls like this all the time ) going to still handle it this way I just feel that if you do get calls like this an you can fit it In its on the customers conscious when they do get the other call that hey this guy re arranged his schedule for me ,

I wouldn’t reschedule a residential. But I’m hungry enough that I’ll get the extra work done. It’s one thing that the franchises do get instilled in them: over hire so that you can get houses in the same week they call. I’m not saying that they’ll do GOOD work, but they will try and get everything done that they can.
For me, that’s the beauty of commercial: there are very few instances where something HAS to be done on a specific day. If you clean a Denny’s every week on Wednesday, they won’t even care if you show up on Tuesday or Thursday. As long as you get it done every week, they don’t really care. It might raise eyebrows if you clean on Friday and show up on Monday again so you need to be smart when you reschedule things.
But that’s also the beauty of window cleaning: for me bumping commercial to the next day isn’t a big deal as long as it gets done and not bumped to the next week. But for you, you run your business differently and that’s cool too.
Now, if the customer is snotty when asking about getting in RIGHT NOW, then maybe I won’t bend over backwards for them. One lady had her husband die and was getting new blinds and the blind sales person recommended me so I got her in that week before the blinds. Another customer was listing their million dollar home and, upon recommendation from the realtor, wanted it cleaned before the open house so I got it done (but you’d think that a million dollar house would have more windows, but I guess it was all about the sweetness of the location).
Today a lady just had her husband returned back from the hospital and really wanted the windows done. She had someone scheduled for saturday, but I was able to fit her in today. So she was excited at the work, they’ll be calling me back this fall, and I got a $30 tip. Booyah.
these days everybody wants it now , that goes for everything from their meals down to the windows. Say" i will do it when next in the area" and chances are the moment is lost and theyll treat you like poop /brush you off ,once you finally arrive.
i usually try to keep the conversation going with a few loaded questions when a new customer calls or texts enquiring .i always end with “have a nice day!” which is likely commonly done in the States but not usually done when texting business here .
i used to think that somebody wanting same/next day service was likely to be a one-off type loser loud mouth, but thats not the case. I find they are often good types who are testing you ,can you rise to the challenge and pull it off . Once youve pulled it out of the bag the first time from then on you can arrive for follow up cleans whenever suits you.
i especially like the ones that text message only the whole deal start to finish .
Gotta agree with diamond however I would reschedule one for another ONLY if the new rescheduled job is at least double the price of what the original job was.
And that’s just one factor of many I would use before I would actually reschedule a job for another.
It’s is very hard making that phone call to reschedule I’m not going to be a hypocrite, an say I never have . The thing is when I did do it I knew it was an easy going customer an I was just asking her if she wouldn’t mind it was totally up to her an she was ok with it . I don’t make a habit out of reshuffling jobs around , but sometimes things come up, and if it is a viable option than so be it. If she said no I can’t then no it is .

I find 4-6 exterior photos emailed from a potential customer in need of work done right away could save you any troubles when you get there. shoot them a price first… then head on over.
On days that I don’t have any work schedule, I still dress for work and have the truck ready to go(gas, tools and water) . I have notice you can charge a lot more on same day service

Just today driving in to a scheduled job I get a call from a commercial lead inquiring if we can get there today for window cleaning. Nope, booked up. Then asks what about tomorrow? Yeah, sure I’ll work for you on 4th of July .
