At first usage scrim was ok !! But i wash it a few x’s. Wow it’s really better than towels !! But a person must change how he does things !! Just let it air dry !! I use a spring clamp on the q-pode and it just flaps dry very fast !!what a deal !! No more running back to get more towels. No more washing a load every nit !! About once a week my strip washer get washed.then hanged up to dry. Lots of saveings and changes. Now to get scrim in blue or green !! Got to order more scrim !!
Thats the way they used to dry them in the UK - just wind the window up on a quarter of the scrim
It’s awesome stuff! I can’t believe what a great tool it is! Thanks to WCR for bringing it to the US market. And a big thanks to my friend Karl for sending me my first piece!
I have 5 scrim cloths and wash them once a week and let them air dry. Scrim is so much more efficient than any other cloth I’ve ever used. I too am so glad that Karl and WCR turned us on to scrim.
I could never go back to using hucks. Hucks were good but once you use scrim there’s no going back.
does it ruin them to dry them in the dryer?
I’ve never put mine in the dryer but have been advised that if you do there will be a static charge that will draw lint to the scrim.
I’m not sure whether the dryer would damage scrim or not.
When I get new scrim I wash and dry them 3 to 4 times to break them down a bit. I haven’t noticed any problems w/ lint or static though.
Scrim is amazing. I can’t say enough about it. Huge time saver and the best towel(once it’s broken in) for a “one swipe” touchup. I broke mine in per Karl’s reccomendation… Use it as a sill or floor towel for the first couple of washes. Get it dirty, then start using it on the windows after a week or so.
On a funny note, I had my towels in front of the washer to wash the other night when our new puppy peed on the kitchen floor. My lovely lady grabs my dirty scrim to mop up the mess and I, without thinking about it, scream urgently for her to stop. Scared and surprised her and the dog! After apologizing, I told her in very clear tones that this was the best kind of towel I had. I think we might be getting a divorce, lol.
Get a good lawyer and make sure you get to keep the Scrim!
hahaha
It wouldn’t ruin them - but with any fabric it shortens its life & brings the weave closer together, also there’s the lint thing - picks up whats in the barrel & static charges it to collect more.
Anyone that has used Microfiber - I’d be interested to see what you reckon scrim Vs M/F?
Hey folks - just glad you finally got the scrim & a supplier that can take care of you
I think M/f has almost the same absorbancy rate, but that’s it. These days, I use my m/f wet for a frame and sill towel. The scrim just LASTS. It doesn’t tear as easily as the m/f, doesn’t get as wet as quick, and doesn’t need to be washed after almost every cleaning. Like I said before, can’t say enough good things about it.
P.S. Thanks for the advice about the lawyer! She can have the dog, I’ll keep the towels…Just kidding. I’m not that window obsessed.
I have never used scrim before and I was wondring if you guys and girls that use it are you all using it for everything or just the edges. It seem too large to just be for the edges. I use 2 different towels, 1for the edges and one for the bulk water. I have been wanting to order one but I have order alot of things in the past that were useless and that is just throwing money out the window.
I use a scrim for detailing and a chamois for bulk water removal. It’s an unbeatable combination in my opinion. No more doing loads of hucks in the wash. I can do a load once every 2 weeks instead of 2 loads a week.
