Starting out and evil Insurance!

For someone starting out and not having much of a route. When is it time to get insurance, because right now I don’t know if I could afford it. So do I get it now or once I grow a little bit.

Thanks

you dont even need insurace by law.

but if you have insurance you might get a few more jobs.

most window cleaners who have insurance just pay out of there own pockets if the damage is $1,000.00 or less.

and if you scratch glass, guess what, your insurance company does not cover you anyways.

just get a waiver signed if you are going to scrape any windows.

Don the window cleaner does not have insurance, so what the hell.

I do have insurance, but never had a claim.

Insurance is a necessary evil. You hopefully will never need it, but having it gives some peace of mind and gives your business a more respectable image in many peoples eyes.

yo Tony, how much do you spend a year on general Liab.?

I am at $800.00 per year

Just under $600.

Must be all that corn out there ha???

I thought you said cost of living is cheap out there???

That includes the insurance on my work vehicle.

yeah i seen your work vehicle…

you need to get a truck brother.

or a big cargo van

Trucks don’t work well w/ all the snow we get here. If I had the coin I’d get a Sprinter van. That’s a sweet ride.

Amazing! $600.00 gen. liability + vehicle (Rubbing eyes in disbelief)

Sprinters are nice, but an overkill, you dont need that much room.

just get a chevy 2500 or 3500 cargo van

plus those sprinters are like 50k or more

I didn’t want to have heavy overhead starting out last April at $0, 0 customers. So I waited until prospective customers would not do business with me unless I got insurance, which happened about 6 weeks ago. So I got insurance.

For some reason, In Canada, where we have universal healthcare, we still pay more for liability insurance.

I pay $900 + 8% Tax. Which is actually a low price for liability insurance in the area I live. I got another quote for $800 dollars but for a few reasons, I decided to go with the $900 dollar quote.

I’m with Royal and Sun Alliance and I’m insured for 2 millions. in Toronto, Canada

My 2001 Honda Odyssey costs me $1700/year for insurance.

Yep. $1,000,000 coverage GL

ya don’t need insurance if you’re going after small store front. BUT when the day comes when you start getting into some larger stuff, some commercial, insurance will be required.

I got insurance when I went full time. since I got insurance I was able to bid on some larger jobs with success.

I carry 2Mill now.

So Insurance won’t cover me if I happen to scratch a window?

I’m thinking yes and no. Example; If you scratch glass with a razor, the insurance company may not cover you because damage was done as a result of your cleaning process. However, if you were moving your ladder and lost hold of it and/or tripped and the ladder scratched a window, it would be an accident; something that insurance is supposed to protect you for. Anyone know for sure if I’m right or wrong?

Wow someone clue me in on where you are getting these lower cost 1mill liability. Ive tried several places that claim to be cheap and the lowest soo far has been 1800.

Where are you located?

Louisville KY

Check to see if there is a Care, Custody, and Control clause in your policy or if you need to take out a rider for it. If you have CCC in your policy then you’re covered in the scenario you offer Mark.
