I recently got a call and they claimed they were “updating” my online Yellow page ad. I do have a Yellow book ad and part of it involves an online ad. The price she stated was, to the best of my recollection at the moment (I was working at the time) what I was paying.
I get a bill later for almost $500 for something different than what I had been talking about to the gal on the phone. I called and told the rep “I feel like I’m being scammed” and he starts w/ the name calling and threats to tie up my work phone everyday until I pay them what I owe.
After some searching on the net I find this company is trading off the legitimate online yellow page company. The website is different by only one thing a (-). I check the legitimate company and find a Fraud button on their website telling about this company. They operate out of Canada and have a PO box in New York. If you get approached by The Online Yellow Page Group Inc. do not do business w/ them as you may get more than you bargained for.
I have filed a complaint w/ the FTC and they will be investigating this company.
Thanks for the info. I get calls like that all the time. It good to know the ones to watch out for and the list gets larger.
Tony,
I get those calls too quite often! They are fast talkers and can put words into your mouth really quick. I make it short and sweet with a comment like:
Are you selling something? They usually reply with a no, im just updating your current free listing with us. You have to ask yourself why they would even care if my listing is updated? Give me a break. They want to sell you something. Bottom line.
Its best to ask them to remove you from their list. Make sure you tell them that. Just don’t hang up.
They’ve called me several times too. I just hang up on them every time. I guess it would be wise to tell them to take me off of their list.
I have a local Yellow Page listing but I get mail from an alternate (national) Yellow Page add company too. I just toss it in the trash.
I don’t deal with or buy from anybody that solicits me over the phone. Some of them may be straight up but it’s just too risky these days to give your info and/or money to strangers over the phone.
Hey Tony,
Funny you should mention this. Two days ago a call came through while I was on the phone with someone else, call waiting. It was Yellow Pages Group so I just ignore it.
Thanks for the tip, Tony.
I wonder how they got your number…?
I just assumed they surf the net for new websites and call the number on it.
Lol. I was kidding Tony. They probably got your number from the yellow page ad they were attempting to upgrade.
Yeah, I get the feeling that they are trying to pose as the Yellow Page company that we already do business with or that they are trying to trick us into thinking that is the case.
The National YP company sends an envelope that looks like a billing statement and if you didn’t pay attention you could send your money to the wrong company instead of to the one you actually do business with.
And they call on the phone wanting to update your info “just for the records” and then pull a fast one on you like they tried to do with Tony.
After hearing what they did to Tony I just want to cuss them out if they call here again.:mad::mad:
I hadn’t really thought about that since they were pushing the online aspect. Good point Micah.
I received the call last week.
I asked if they were AT&T.
They said no.
I hung up and listened to some Napalm Death.
Here is a warning from YP’s in Canada.
Call me a racist, but I dont buy sh!t from anyone from India. They have taken enough American jobs over there at it is. Ive seen a good percentage of work from my clients in the IT field dry up because of this. No thanks Ahbeeb. They are fun to screw with on the phone (if they arent calling on your 800 line).
You’re a racist.
And, India is really not taking jobs if you think about it – America is sending them away.
At least you cant call me greedy Larry:D. Maybe one day I can hire window cleaners for a dollar an hour. Then you can call me a greedy racist.
You get what you pay for.
More to your point: is a dollar an hour equal in the US and India?
While we are off topic on this one… Unions? Good or bad for America?
P.S. I agree totally, India isnt stealing our jobs, greed is stealing our jobs. (my opinion -Non NAFTA supporter here BTW).
Situational.
India is part of NAFTA?

Of course not Larry (I should have been a clear about my opionion:o) I believe that free trade should be fair trade thats all. Equal playing field. Dont want to work like a dog just to live like a dog.
Do you think that NAFTA would have got passed if it was really the North American “FAIR” Trade Agreemment? Washington sold us all out and most unions strongly backed it.
Just a quick heads up for anyone in business who gets these type of calls. NEVER SAY THE WORD YES. That yes word is all they need to bill you for anything they want. They put you on recording, and edit it to sound like you okayed whatever they are selling. And the yellow page fakes are the worst. I screwed with them a million times, and they would call back over and over. I once used every other work except “yes” or “approve” - so she would ask me if I was the manager, and I would reply “maybe”, and if I would like to upgrade/renew my ad, and I would say “perhaps/possibly”. We went on and on until the lady finally screamed at me on the line and said “You are supposed to say YES, just say YES already damn*t!” I told her where to shove it, and then asked if she got that on tape…heh heh.
