Tint removal

No problem! Have a great weekend.

I’ve been a window tinter for 18 years. Best way is to use ammonia and news paper. Soak it good and then cover with plastic. 30 minutes will not due. Overnight is best. After an overnight soak the film will peal off easily as long as the film stays soaked several hours. Window film has pores in it to allow the water from install to evaporate through.
MAKE SURE TO NOT LET AMMONIA POOL ON WOOD IT WILL REMOVE FINISH. Learned this the hard way.

I’ve had good success using blow dryer. Just a few seconds per square foot seemed loosen up the adhesive and the tint just peeled right off. Tried this on several different jobs and had similar good results. I will also testify to the magical power of oil flo.

I use a heat heat gun not a hair dryer for cars sometimes but i do not recommend that because you may break the window.

Nah, I don’t worry about it. IG units can take a lot of heat, and a hair dryer won’t pose much of a risk. Especially if you just fan it across the glass and distribute a nice even heat. A heat gun is overkill.

I do understand because I am a glazier and window tinter. Heat guns work perfect for me but I do not recommend it for someone without experience.

I am likely going to have a job to do in a couple weeks. Three windows about fifteen sq ft each. It is a regular customer so I shot a price of 25 bux per window at her. Based on the car vids I should be able to do each window in fifteen minutes with no residue to scrape. So one hour at 75 bux total. Happy happy.

I am thinking the real trick here is to sweat using controlled heat with the right chem. Probably a sodium metasilicate. Although a 90% d-limonene product might work well too. Much more environmentally friendly, safer for us, slow evaporation rate, but a good solvent. I am thinking those solvents that will soften cured silicone caulk and oil based paint will also soften tint glue too. My head is swimming with ideas for different experiments right now. Contact Chris on the WCR for the d-Limonene product. He will be able to help you out. And I will let you know how it turns out. I have already tested it on silicone. It works well. Works also on oil based paint too. And smells good.

Please do give us an update on what you used and how long it took

No it wasn’t IG.

Heat gun and sharp blades is the best for me.
