Van broke down

The fuel pump in my work van failed yesterday after i stopped to do a quote. What made it worse was that I was 1 1/2 from home. I had a buddy pick me up and went today to haul it to the mechanic. Talk about embarrassing.:o

Tony, Since you are making the $$$$$ now, why dont you just break down and buy a new ride???

If you can buy new wfp’s i think you can buy a new ride…

Hey Bud,
I feel 4 you man. I used 2 have older beat up trucks(had an 89 Dodge I never let my wife ride in) that were not all that impressive let alone dependable. I forked out the coin for a new taco and dependability is the least of my worries. Anywhere from 100-200 miles daily it is essential for a ride that will get you there, look great, and then get you back home. Keep smiling

Join AAA. It’s worth it, even if it’s just for the peace of mind. With the premium membership, they’ll tow you up to 100 miles to the destination of your choice. They’ll unlock your car. They’ll jump start you. They’ll bring 5 gallons of gas to you. They’ll change your tire…etc., etc. I used them twice last year, once for the battery jump, and once for my keys getting locked in.
Plus, there’s all kinds of places that give you discounts for being a AAA member.

If you happen to be completely bored this weekend, a fuel pump is a pretty easy fix to DIY.

Easy, but fun would be a stretch.

Shade tree mechanic ain’t in my skillset.
I talked to a friend of mine that helps me w/ a lot of my repairs and he said this is better left to a mechanic. I’ll stick to easier maintenance and window cleaning.:o

I haven’t bought that many new poles (in fact just one) and certainly nothing that comes close to being as expensive as a new ride.

I have given that some thought John. Believe me today I thought long and hard about it!

Tony just the other week I was meeting with a person over a large 4 story job I’m going to give a quote on. I spent about an hour with the person and walking around the building. Get back to the truck and the battery was dead!

Now I know for a FACT that they had a battery jump off battery inside the building, but I wasn’t about to ask them for help. I called my wife and got her to make the 30 mile trip to help me out.

So I know how that feels, thankfully mine was an easy fix though. Hope you get yours back soon.

Thanks Micah. It is scheduled to be fixed by Tuesday.

About a month ago, I pulled into a prospects driveway and after chatting with her a bit I look over to notice that my Jeep poured anti-freeze all over her drive. She noticed it too. Neither of us said anything about the huge spot on her pristine drive but she never did call back about the cleaning. Stupid Jeep needs a water pump.

Then, last week I pull in to another prospects driveway and smoke is coming out from my front wheels! I was in one of my service vans this time and my brakes had seized up on the way there. I ruined the rotors, pads, calipers, and lines. Had to have it towed to a shop and paid over $500 to get it fixed. I was also about an hour from home.

My tension pulley for the main belt in my truck fell off in the road today! After nearly overheating my truck and dodging traffic, I retreived the part from the road. It’s going back on there tomorrow with a new bolt, via my own two hands. Hopefully, 'cause like mister squeegee there, I’m not entirely mechanically inclined, lol.

Talk about embarrassing. Heres one for you. I was leaving from a job that I had just quoted when my fuel pump went out in the middle of their automatic gates! The lady heard me cranking my engine over and over to try to get my van started. She walked down to see what was the matter. I told her that I had already called AAA and that they were on the way. Just about then, the gates started beeping and began to close on my van. :(I grabbed a stack of towels from the inside of my van to cushion the gates on both sides so they wouldnt damage the paint. I felt like a total idiot! I still got the job though which was good.

Steve

After a gig Saturday I had just backed my power washing trailer rig into my rental storage unit and steam started coming out from under the hood of my truck.

Luckily I had a whole bottle of 50/50 antifreeze/coolant in the truck so I poured it into the radiator and made it back to my house a mile away. I opened the hood and saw a pinhole leak in one of the smaller hoses.

A friend who is a mechanic came by later and told me the hose was a by-pass hose so I went to the auto parts store and got a new one. I’ll be putting the new hose on after I post this message. Then I have to go do the windows at a McDonald’s playground.

So Tony, you’re not alone. Sounds like it’s goin’ around huh! What Fun!!!

I figured most of us had probably had vehicle issues at one time or another. Feels good to know we all have the same things to deal w/ on the job.

Finally getting my van back and it cost about half what it could have.

Sounds like a deal! Glad it worked out for you in the end.

I’m glad to hear that you caught a break there good buddy!

The question everyone is forgetting to ask… did you get the job you had quoted???

I e-mailed her the quote and so far no response. Of course after that embarrassing event I didn’t expect to get it. Or anything else in that neighborhood.
