I know there are some people who have good advice with flyers. I would appreciate any help. I already had these printed and about 10000 put out so far. I would like your advice, recomendations for any future prints. I have found that I get a lot of calls from military vets or family members. And a good call rate from the elderly community. What other reccomendations could you make.
Hi Billy,
It is great if Vets are calling, if there is enough of them.
Your flier design is pretty cool but sorta hard to read. I am not a big fan of print over picture (text over the images). Not so much that I can’t read it but that it is distracting and takes more energy. More energy = less readers.
Your offer for the $90 for 17 windows is not being used effectively. You will also have problems because you word it as 17 windows. What if they have 16 or 18? Your offer should be at the bottom close to the “Call Now!”
Limited Time Offer
Get up to 20 windows cleaned for only $99
Must schedule by June 15th
The “why get your windows cleaned” sucks. You give no reason they care about other than low cost (change that to “great value”). I should have my windows cleaned because of a 15 day rain guarantee? Because of a free quote? What the heck is low overhead?
I would focus on why they should choose you to solve their problem. Now you can mention some of the above. (except low overhead)
Always use the term “FREE Quote” (which is not needed if a detailed offer is on it)
Always have “Call Now” by the number
Hope that helps!
Hey Billy, thanks for sharing your flier.
I don’t like all the pictures and text written over the picture. It doesn’t look that professional, and some people might have a hard time reading it.
I found you have a lot of cliches in your text. Like no-obligation quote (aren’t all quotes no obligation? You can’t force people to accept your service if they don’t like the quote.
Being insured, by itself, doesn’t really say anything to the customer. You should do a la Kevin and say some benefit of using an insured company.
What does low cost, low overhead mean? Those two words probably have very similar meanings. And that is a benefit that you would say to someone entering the window cleaning business. eg. You should start a window cleaning business because there is a low overhead, and you can make a lot of money. It doesn’t really appeal to a customer.
And what does 17 windows mean? Is that outside only, or in&out. What are you going to do if there are storm windows? Is $90 in/out enough to cover your costs and make a profit? Two of my very successful competitors in my city charge $87, or $140 dollars for just cleaning outsides. And for in/out they charge $150 and $280 respectively.
I would ditch all the graphics, and make it look more professional, communicate a real message to the customer, not cliches like no obligation quote, being insured, and such like everyone else. Communicate benefits, and explain how the customer benefits, speak a bit more about your company, and perhaps even make brochures next time.
Just my two cents.
Good point on defining the offer Mike. It is vital to describe all they get for $90. Windows cleaned inside and out, sills cleaned, screens cleaned, etc…
We don’t want them thinking, we want them calling
As to the insurance explanation, I don’t feel that necessary unless it is an issue experienced. I have never been asked beyond “are you insured”. That tells me that answers the basic question and would be a waste of space to go too deep.
Here is how I explain my insurance-
“For your protection we are insured to 1 million dollars”
Thanks for everyones input. Very interesting to know how other poeple see things or view them!
I like what your saying about the date portion but I like to print lots of flyers at once due to budget right now becasue I get a better rate vs little amounts. So I don’t want to put an end date on them like “Must schedule by June 15th” Any other suggestions?
The area where I was putting these out is next to Luke Air Force Base so yes a good amount of Military.
Also, you mention ditching graphics. Can you explain this a little more? I have tried a basic approach to flyering. White paper with black text, no BS no graphics, just to the point and recieved almost no calls. Now I’m sure I didn’t have the worlds best flyer but no calls with a basic flyer to a descent amount from this one with graphics. Im sure not every place is the same but it’s not worth getting printed and having someone flyer them.
When you say my offer for for 17 windows isn’t being used effectively becasue “what if they have less than 17 windows what if they have more than 17 windows”? Then you say “Get up to 20 windows cleaned for only $99”. Now I get your point in what your saying. But the same could be said for the way you worded it. What if they have more that 20 windows? I guess both ways kind of implie that you can have less windows or more windows and the price would vary considering not every home has 17 windows.
Very interesting to see how people view things.
I appreciate all your feedback hopefully I can improve my flyer and ROI. Thanks again for all your feedback. Please leave more!
looks good. like how its written in water. are you jamming them in the door or using a rubber band to hang them on the knob? ive noticed a difference with response using rubber band . poeple hate to pick them up of the ground if they fall
I buy my post cards in quantity of 5000. if you want a cheap way to put an exp date you can purchase a custom made stamper from office max for $15 . they give you # lines to say whatever you want. i will stamp 1000 in one night … real easy and cheap to do that way you dont have to have all your postcards with the same special
I usually hire distribution companies. I’m not sure what they do. I hope they are putting them in door jambs atleast. When I go and do it that’s what I do. I will try rubber band though that’s easy, and wind won’t take it. Not that we get a whole lot of that here it’s usually 100+ degrees for 10 out of 12 months…
Thats a good idea with the stamp. When I get my flyers re-designed! I wil have them leave a spot where I can just stamp an end date on them! Sounds like a good idea! Thanks aaroncline
my pleasure . im in az too . call me up will have lunch . know about 10 window cleaners here always helpn each other out. also i read on another post you take your screens out from inside. you can take them off from outside with a flat head screw driver.

Sounds good Aaroncline. Good to know!
I take 2nd storys off sometimes from inside, just depends on the situation, but I use a paint can opener for bug screens most of the time on the outside makes it real easy!
CFP,
I see what your saying. Ya most people on this sight have been extremely helpful. I truly appreciate it.
Again thanks for the help cfp!
CFP,
Glad I wandered in, excellent advice to him, and good advice for all. I wish I knew how to post my flier, I’ll learn B4 I order more. Thx

Something else that will help:
Make it all about them, not you.
Your current headline “Let Us Clean Your Windows” sounds desperate, and is not focused on them, but you.
Remember that people are always thinking WIIFM (Whats In It For Me).
Change it to be about them only.
“Relax this weekend!”
“Stop wasting your weekends!”
“Make Your Home Feel Amazing!”
Those are all benefit-oriented too, instead of focusing on the technical side.
I think graphics are good to use on a flyer, or pictures, but it’s the way you put it, text over graphics that might make it hard to see the text. I also didn’t think that the graphics you used really added anything to what you were saying.
Thanks bro!
Just upload it and link it in a post
I dont like it.
Low cost, and low over head?
HUH?
