What is the best weather sealer

I recently bought some Invisible Shield or Sanishield. I have to admit that I’m not impressed. It was fairly difficult to apply. It kept wanting to leave a film so that the glass didn’t look clean. It also didn’t repel water or dirt like I expected it too. I thought the water would run down the pane instead of drying on spot and leaving a water mark:(

So if anyone has more experience with other chemicals I’d be interested in hearing about the good ones.

I have never liked Sanisheild. Same reasons as what you are dealing with. I like Amaz and in a pinch Rain-x. I would say Rain-x is maybe one step above Sanisheild but not much better. the film isn’t as bad. I like How Amaz works but again it’s easy to apply. Hard to get off.

I tried rain x after using sanishield. It was easier for me to apply. However, I really didn’t see the difference in the time the window stayed cleaner. I guess it depends on the environment. I tried it at my home and it got dirty in a similar amount of time compared to using just dawn. I just can’t see its worth it for me.

I don’t use these type products to keep the windows clean longer. I use them for preventative maintenance. water spots and sprinkles mainly. Dirt will get a window dirty no matter what you put on it. just depends on the weather

Excellent point Scott. Dirt and hard water spotting are 2 different animals.

Basically you are saying what rain-x and sani shield can prevent the pores of the glass from being stained from the minerals…is that right? If so how long in ideal and in ‘less that ideal’ situations does it last?

Thats a tuff question. There are so many variables it would be almost impossible to judge a time frame. The cheaper the product normally the less time it will last. Add in rain, sprinklers, garden hose, what ever else may touch the glass and you decrease that time as well. A good coat of rain-x on widows that get hit by the spinklers for around 15-20 mins a day may last 1-2 weeks. where I have found A-maz to last 2-5 in the same senario. There are othe products out there that claim to last longer but the hassle of useing them may not be worth it. when it comes to repelants I recomend it for the client to do, speacially with things like rain x. I get houses that I may only visit twice a year. So I clean & add my repelant if needs be and if there are any problem areas with water stains I will recomend treating with rain-x as preventitive maintence one or twice a month. This way the hard water stains don’t get any worse and we have a better chance of repairing the damage.

This stuff http://shop.windowcleaner.com/product.sc?productId=554&categoryId=104 can last 6 months to a year (their statement) but it’s a more involved application and more costly. It all depends on what you’re dealing w/ and how long between applications as to what you use.
