It’s not just about speed though. I think on some windows you shouldn’t fan because, for me at least, it increases the chance of a streak. I’m talking about average size take aparts. For me it’s up the left frame and over, up and over and then straight across the bottom. That way if I leave a streak I know where it’s going to be but with fanning it could happen anywhere. It’s sometimes hard to see streaks when you’re inside a house and there’s nothing I hate worse then putting together a set of windows THEN seeing a streak.:o
Like Mike the Window Cleaner I do what suits the window best. I’m always game for perfect fits, then it’s a no-brainer if you ask me.
Ya … Customers don’t seem to like streaks very much … even if we look awesome while we’re cleaning the window.
Fanning is very Zen, that was the perfect word for it whoever called it that. It’s an art form in my opinion. Fanning is the Jedi way. (but you gotta be practical)
I’m not laughing, I think its great that you can fan windows and do a great job at the same time. Congrats! One of these days I’ll take some time and practice it more and see what i can do with it- if I’m able to do it as well as some of you guys and maintain my standard of quality then I would be willing to do it more often if I see a benefit. It’s just that right now, I’m not as good as some of you guys at this technique, and it is more of a pain than an asset for me. So for those of you do it and are good at it- my hat is tipped to you and your skills!
