I have one medical/psych campus that I do pretty well on. A little south of $10k, and it takes me 3-4 days depending on what help their maintenance department can provide in operating their lift. This year, I only got halfway through before a piston blew on their old lift and the job was halted. They sent the part out for rebuild, and it never came back in time to resume. That was kind of a bummer.
The impression/clues I’ve gotten from other large facilities in our area, is that their window cleaners charge peanuts for pretty top-notch work. One hospital I think was somewhere around $3k, for what must’ve been close to a week’s work for 2-3 guys. I don’t get it
Commercial ≠ storefront, in my mind. They’re two separate categories, with two entirely different approaches.
Guys who do well with storefront, have a whole route locked down where they can walk from one account to the next. And they are well practiced in the art of “good enough”. Despite that, even the best storefront window cleaners will struggle to top $75/hr or so (some reportedly do get $100+). They’re usually happy to have the consistency, so it’s a tradeoff. (But as this year demonstrates, nothing is guaranteed. A lot of store owners couldn’t justify having their windows cleaned this year. )
