I treat these people like they’re at my front door trying to start a business. Oh well he’s in Utah. What’s the wait?
He is Utah and it’s June. Of course he should start a business right now.
Starting in the off season is terrible unless you have another source of income that pays your bills. Actually… I don’t know your situation, you may not have any bills. But I would most definitely do something.
Don’t sit all day on forums trying to figure it out. Just go do it. You will figure it out as you go. When you run into stuff you don’t understand or not sure what the best course of action to take is… Tell the client you need to talk to your partner about some technical advice before moving forward, why don’t I get back to you on that. Go home. Get on WCR. Post it. Wait for the answer. Go back the next day and provide the solution.
As far as S Corp. LLC Sole blah blah blah… Whatever man. Just do something. Get a job. Clean some windows. When they ask you how you want to get paid simply reply with a big smile… “We’ll ma’am, my best friends call me cash. Actually in order to avoid double taxation, can you please just make the check out to me personally?” (This is assuming you don’t have a Square or Paypal Reader for cards)
Make some money. Then start to worry about how you are going to be taxed.
I started in window cleaning that exact way. I didn’t have much. What I had I borrowed. I ended up selling that company for a good amount considering I started with $50 I borrowed to buy a squeegee, bucket, and a pole. Then borrowed ladders from family until I could buy them.
I had a 1988 Jeep Cherokee that leaked oil and I made a ladder rack out of a twin bed frame and suction cups. Paid $60 for my company name and website to be put on the back of the Jeep and I was off and running. Before you knew it I had a new truck and all new equipment.
At the end of the day… It’s all about action.
Print yourself up some fliers. Go to a neighborhood where the average home value starts at $350,000 and start putting the fliers out. At the $.03 copy place that is less than $20 for 500 fliers. That’s if you are starting with nothing. Zero marketing budget - you can stand on the corner with a sign that says. “Need Marketing Budget Please Help” I bet you would do quite well with donations. (Don’t do this anywhere within 100 miles of your service area )
Heaven forbid you have to throw a moving blanket on top of your Kia and strap a ladder from a tool rental company on there. At least you are making money while you are doing it.
So once again. It’s all about action. My mentor told me this was the most important word in the English language. I am inclined to agree.
Only focus right now on what makes you money. You can fill in the details as you go.
Read on this forum at night. Put fliers out all day every day until you book jobs during normal business hours.
In other words. During business hours, just like a job. You are to be doing what makes you money. At night, after hours. You can read on how to do stuff and what’s the best way to keep track of what and get paid how.
Call it OJT (On the Job Training) if you want to. Just don’t get stuck in that mindset of overthinking. Start doing it. You will figure it out as you go.
