Who do I speak to?

I have a few questions, when estimating a job im often told you have toget ahold of corporate or the main office. What is the best way to find the location or the person that you need to talk to estimate thejob you want

Each store/company will be different. Some stores the manager may handle that, other stores the district manager or even the corporate office.

The best thing to do is be polite and friendly and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Ask who the decision maker is, they’ll usually tell you.

do i call the person in charge if they are located out of state or do i just trust the person will pass the information on

Never trust… always call.

I’ve had a few of those time. I usually ask for the number of the person to call at corporate. But often when you call corporate, you are in a no man’s land. You might put yourself out there, and leave a message (rarely have I got a live person answering the phone), but don’t expect for someone to call you back.

But there has been a rare time where my efforts bore fruit.

Keep in touch with the manager, leave your card with them. Often they get fed up with corporate and are sometimes able to hire you outright. It has happened to me several times.

On those automated lines you can generally get a hold of a person by pressing 0.

There’s a website somewhere that list numbers for a great many of companies that put you with a real person, nothing automated. These numbers are generally not distributed.

This is often the biggest challenge of the salesman. Getting past the gatekeeper. Usually it is the secretary of the person you need to reach. You might say “I need to speak to **** in reference to the window cleaning proposal” Finding and getting a hold of the decision maker is never easy.
