12.5% Sodium Hypochlorite

Hey Guys,

Im new to the siding and roof cleaning business and i’ve been calling all my local swimming pool suppliers here in west TN, but all they have is the powdered version, not the liquid…
i also sent a mail to brenntag but they never answered.

where do you guys get your 12.5% SH and what are the prices?

Thx

Unless you live in Florida or Texas, give up on trying to find 12% at a pool store…that is a huge misnomer. The only place you will be able to get it for the most part is through a chemical distributor like brenntag and most will have a minimum quantity you have to buy. Most of the them will not sell it in less than 55 gal drums and most of them have a minimum order so I have to buy 2 drums at a time. This is what it is like for the majority of us, although there is exceptions.

In NY where I am I buy by the gallon cheapest I seen is $2.85 per gall. I buy from a pool supply wholesale Co.

I called Bob from PressureTek and he told me for now to go to Lowes or Home Depot and get the Outdoor Clorox. This is 7.5% SH and will do fine, but may need to dwell a little longer. i do need to use one more gallon of bleach in the mix, so i guess 4.5 gallons of bleach mixed with half a gallon of water and 16oz of SC. I’ll let you know how it worked out!

Yeah, it’s better than regular Clorox for sure, but I think last time I looked it was $6.xx a gallon? Remember, 12.5% degrades very fast from heat and sunlight. You need to make sure it’s as fresh as possible. I get it mine about a week after the manufacture date and usually it only lasts about a month or so when I put it in my tank. So you can imagine how much regular store bought bleach can be weakened. Store bought bleach is ok for housewashes, but to do roofs properly, your going to need to find fresh 12.5 from somewhere to be profitable. If your buying store bought bleach for roofs, you would be spending at least half your price just on bleach. Just food for thought…

If you can find 10% that will work fine as well

I can get 12.5% at hardware stores pool supply companies and the local chemical dist. When I first started I went to SAMs club and bought the 6% bleach for around 1.45 a gal. You just have to cut your dilution in half. And it will work fine for roofs and houses. Be careful of the outdoor Clorox on roofs as I’ve heard of it leaving a film.

Have you tried Univar?

Also check Harcross.

A big chemical truck comes and delivers ours. If you can get it this way you can score it for as low as $2 a gallon.

I seen a few videos of how to do roof cleaning but i have no idea what the mix of chemicals is… Could someone clue me in ?
