3 more months and I will be in business a year. I started around August last year (my birthday month btw lol) and I am currently at $6,343.01 revenue.
I’m doing this business while I work an office job and was taking college classes. Last week I decided college is not for me so I decided to diiiip.
No point in college when I will probably just end up running a business in the future and now I see the potential of running this wc biz.
I still have my commercial route work to schedule for this upcoming week and more jobs coming up so my revenue could probably be around 10k for the first year.
Is this good? How did you do your first year.
Summer I will probably distribute 1500 postcards with a friend and try to gain new customers.
I didn’t do any marketing this spring, just some customers that called this year because of the postcards I distributed last year and referral work as well as my google listing (that has been HUGE). My gmb got me this mansion job that wants service twice a year. Google listing is HUGE for my business.
My plan after summer (around fall / winter time) will be to get a website made, buy a truck and logo it out, and then work on the marketing for next year. I am leaning on 5k eddm postcards but might lower the quantity, yard signs, business cards, and door hangers (those that will say something like i serviced ur neighbor call for quote etc).
Any tips ? I also need to have my equipment sort of optimized. Equipment is not a big priority but getting leads is.
It’s hard to say if $6,343.01 is good. Depends on how you define good. If it figures out to $30/hr and that’s good for you then it was good. When I started my business 10 years ago I was averaging about $40 /hr which was good to me even though I had been cleaning windows for 10 years already for someone else. Now I’m usually around $80 and that’s good. I didn’t get faster, I got more efficient.
I also started my business aug 2020. I was working fulltime at night. and doin window cleaning in the morning i just checked and im at $27,000 i made from window cleaning. I bought a 2017 transit cash for 13,000. So i am at around $10,000??? I also quit my full time job 2 months ago to focus on the buisness.
Personally, I think you define what success is. Success could be growing to be the largest company in the world, or it could be making enough money to get away from the rat race and spend more time living than working. I am in my first month, but to me success is working 26 weeks a year and making $40k+, however that can change.
Starting a Residential/Commercial PW business in South Florida. Many options in setting up website. Several questions: Many “lead generators” Home Advisor/Thumbtack/ Angi/ Merchant Circle appear to be “Scams” I will try free or low cost Ad websites and social media. Suggestions? Also, need Insurance- Business Owners (BOP); Umbrella and Business owners auto Liability- In event driver at fault over limits they will sue owner of company. Any insight greatly appreciated Reply to: Reference “WCR blog” Thank you
To me at this point, success would be keeping the house note paid and the lights on, but most importantly the independence it brings. If things keep going well I might be realizing that reality. I’m going all in, probably about to dip into my retirement fund if I must… I spent the last 20 yrs in the IT industry and network engineering…money was good, but I got sick of the culture and spending my days/nights staring into a screen. I did a big job Monday and I was wiped out when I was done…got some sun though so I can’t complain!
