2 Man team

What works best for you while working a two man team? Both people outside first then move inside or one outside while the other is inside. Just curious since I am still new to this business and having been working with my son on the last two houses. I have been using him to clean screens while I start the outside and then he moves inside while I finish up the outside.

For me, the crew leader goes inside. Helps remove any screens that need to be released from inside. Then he begins cleaning inside. Other crew member does outside with WFP. Takes about the same amount of time usually to do in and out. Crew leader goes around inside to double check everything and then they replace screens and collect check.

With no WFP I would still do it the same way… Just have the outside guy begin with any ladder work, and when crew leader comes out there should hopefully mostly be walk-ups and screens still to do.

How do you clean the screens?

a few different ways, depending on how dirty they are and on what package the customer selected. Not really relevant to the OP’s question, tbh.

We do it together, leap frogging each room. Both inside then we go outside. Once outside one works on screens, the other starts on windows. Works well for us.

We have done it with one in and one out, no real difference but I like to have someone nearby to talk to. Passes the time.

He was asking the most efficient way to work and you mentioned one guy inside and one out. I was asking your process for cleaning the screens, don’t be impertinent.

tbh he was asking the most efficient way to utilize a 2 man crew. If you’re interested in screen cleaning methods, perhaps start a new thread, or consider using the search feature? smh.

I think you answered my question. Reading between the lines, looks like they clean them in the bathtub

My order of business is customer interaction since I’m the owner & I like to minimize indoor traffic so I get the insides. I crank out 1 story casements so insides can be done from the outside, also cuts down on time. Pella or storm window jobs I get those, 2nd guy removes them & the screens then cleans interiors, 3rd guy gets the outside. First guy done starts putting everything back in. If the screens aren’t too dirty we don’t even take them out, clean in place.

I am in the process of training my new business partner Aaron. I like working as a team starting with the outside. Then working as a team on the inside. I clean the screens before going inside. They will dry why the inside is being done. I pile them together and brush in only a few minutes. As for customer relations, I want Aaron to interact with the customer and I want our customers to know us both.
I am not sure how long it takes you to do a home, but we can do 50 panes inside and out in 2.5 - 3 hours.

One pulls curtains back etc and clear the window sills. </SPAN>

Any screens that need to be taken out are taken out or pushed out from inside.</SPAN>

Unless there are clips holding them on the outside this is done when cleaning the outside.</SPAN>

So the other follows scrubs squeegee cleans tracks frames etc quick detail.</SPAN>

Then goes outside when finished start on exterior of the house windows.</SPAN>

While the first one follows up checks does final detail put everything back inside.</SPAN>

Although sometimes the curtains may be left open, you always seem to see where you missed inside when doing the outside.</SPAN>

By this time the one that is now doing the outside is well ahead.</SPAN>

So the one from inside follows up spot check detail those runs you get. </SPAN>

When water gets under top frames or cut ups fames that are glued on the glass.</SPAN>

The screens are done also as you go you can use damp micro fibre.</SPAN>

But for the dirty screens we wash them also when doing the window.</SPAN>

Use old scrubber or brush to be used to scrub screens.</SPAN>

And separate bucket of cleaning solution so not to dirty the solution you use for the windows.</SPAN>

This may seem as though it is a long process.</SPAN>

When actually doing it this way is quite quick once you work out how to do it.</SPAN>

It works for us. </SPAN>

i do all day on the ladder while the 2nd worker does follows underneath doing downstairs only. i have 2 other workers and its split the same way for them too , 1 on ladder,1 downstairs / the ladderworker isnt expected to do any talking with a customer, its left for the downer worker to sort out the chat/ money etc
all workers to wear hat or cap at all times to avoid water splashing down in their hair/eyes

i personally find ladderwork is easier on my knees compared to downstairs work where you have to squat down often ,twist the knee etc

We run one man with the wfp and one inside. The guy inside usually cleans second floor screens while the outside guy cleans lower screens. Works well a 20window in and out usually takes less then 45 minutes

I do it according to the circumstances. A typical lakehouse where I’m at will have several double-hungs or casements and a fair number of high fixed including skylights. There I’ll have one do all the inside ladder work with a priority to ones that are above standing level windows, then go outside and wfp is it is warranted. The other continues to do insides, starting on the top floor and working down. The ladder/outside guy will know where the inside guy started and “follow” his route on outsides.

50 panes or 50 windows are you counting a double hung as 2 panes or 1. Just curious
