500 Post cards handed out 500 to go

So I’ve handed out 500 of 1000 post cards and what a task I tell ya. I think I will be hiring someone to hand out the next 5000 I have coming. Just how long does it take for a response. I know I could get no calls or 50 calls. How long did it take for the first customer to call? I’m hoping to get at least 10 to 20 calls on those 1000 post cards. Am I crazy for thinking that:eek:

Thanks, Scott

I know how you feel. I’ve passed out a S-load of flyers myself and I still have a full time job.

You might be a little crazy but who knows, you might have an AWESOME postcard. I think on average most business expect to get a 1/2 to 1 percent callback. So for a thousand flyers you will typically get 5-10 calls.

Hey if you sell those calls your ROI should still be pretty good.

Good luck!

My son passed out ~100 flyers (my concept; his Photoshop Elements work) yesterday afternoon after school.

The first call came before he arrived home.

Larry and Scott,. Can you post your postcard and flyer?

Crazy Cleaner handed out flyers, got a 45% return rate, some other hand them out get a .5% return rate. Lots of factors in play; colour, pics, time of year, areas and if they get lots of flyers or is that the first time they have seen your type of flyers?

Best of luck and cheers to you!

I hired a company that hand delivers them last time I sent out some real expensive (in my opinion cuz Im cheap) postcards, and got not one phone call.

Personally I dont believe they delivered them at all.

Last month I had 1000 full color flyers printed with a deadline of March 30th. So I decided to pass them out myself and make sure they got to the homes. MAN, that passing out flyers by yourself absolutely SUCKS! By the time I was done for the day (thats right one day) my feet were killing me!
I only passed out maybe 150 of them too. A week later, passed out maybe 100 of them in an area that I have 4 or 5 customers in, and I got calls a week later, 3 calls. Payed for the printing and then some. In total I passed out maybe 250 flyers. Its now April, and I still have a whole stack in my bookcase. Alot of good 1000 did for me.
The only way I can think of doing it, and doing it the way I want without mailing them out, is hire a bunch of kids, put em in the truck and give em 5 bucks an hour and follow them around.

I agree with you Tory 100%…It sucks handing them out yourself but you have to do what you have to do. I handed out 500 in 3 hrs time and my feet have blisters. I might have to get some of those shoes with wheels…I have the same worries about hiring someone and them just stashing them instead of putting them out. So I would rather do it myself. Once I get rolling with jobs I will do a mailer.

You so crazy. J/k

Why were you both walking? This past weekend I was driving around putting out flyers and saw two different companies walking passing out flyers.

I guess there might be times where walking is necessary but man I drive around and can get 1000+ out in 4-5 hours.

Why don’t you just address the postcards and mail them to certain neighborhoods?

Personally, I hate when people try to soilicit work by handing me something I didn’t ask for. If I need a service I look for someone to provide that service from my local paper or I look online. Occaisionally I have hired companies to do work from material I have gotten in the mail.
I just think that handing out flyers and such to random people makes you look desperate. JMO

I’ve done both and tracked both. I’ve gotten a better ROI from passing them out myself, even with gas/time etc.

I go out a few times a year (spring and fall) and pass out flier’s all day, beyond that I hit the areas we are working/bidding in as we come and go.

Myself, I spend more time looking at materials left in my newspaper bin than I do those which come in the mail. By the time I have my mail I am looking for checks/bills and personal letters, the rest doesn’t make past the garbage bin on my way inside.

How long have you been in business?

Is it me or does driving seem like a waste? I park at a certain street then come back in a couple of hours when Im done. In california we cant put anything on or near the mail boxes. Also we have mostly track homes in my city so driving wouldnt work for me.

Cheers

To what do you attribute the difference?

What is your response rate on post cards?

We picked 8000 homes in 3 high end areas. From our mailer which was basic produced $7865 from the first year. 5000 of the same flier passing out ourselves we made $24,385 in the first year.

The repeat business has been stronger from the group we gained from the non-mailed responses.

To what do I attribute the difference? Getting to pick where/when the fliers hit. Yes we get to pick what day we mail them, but we can’t predict the weather.

As I stated in my earlier response, I feel when advertisments are in the mail they are mixed in with more important items and therefore easily forgotten.

Larry the spell checking function has to be downloaded on this computer and it will take an hour to download (CPU sucks) so if anything is mis-spelled let it go.

Now I’m curious – on how many occasions have I commented upon spelling (spelling, not really something else. You know – a read-between-the-lines kinda thing)?

BTW, I thought a spell-check was built-in to vBulletin with the administrator’s (Chris) option to turn it on.

I clicked on spell checking icon and it informed me I had to download ispell. the computer I was using is at least 6 years old.

I would like to know how you can stay in your car and pass out flyers. I assume you are talking about mailboxs right? Here in California, at least in San Diego, the mail boxs here are different. There is one or 2 big boxs for the entire street that everyone gos to to pick up their mail. I have to walk it.
The box’s also are made so you cant even slide a paper in that box. Trust me, I tried to buy a copy of the master key. Wasn’t happening.

If it looks desperate, I have to disagree. There are many companies who pass out flyers. Pizza hut, domino’s,landscapers, lawyers, jiffy lube…I cant think of more but why is it desperate if its a nice peice? I will say tho, yeah, I am desperate I think, I just dont want to LOOK desperate.

I am desperate to achieve my goals with the budget I have, and mailers are not in my budget.

I will also say, that many of the high end homes around here are so large, what I have noticed was that there were several flyers already at their doorstep or on their door and were faded, one of these houses I seen someone leaving from the garage. So, I really dont think they even use the front door much at all. Many of these people are working or whatever to pay for their lifestyle and are always on the move. They come home and park in the garage, enter the house thru the garage and leave in the morning the same way.
In these areas, I wrote down their addresses and these places I will mail to.
