I just won a bid on a window cleaning, gutter cleaning and glass pool enclosure for a home in Seattle. I have a few pictures of the house on my business Facebook page.
Wow, gorgeous house. Looks like they have some scaffolding up, is that going to be in the way?
I like your truck. Nice contractor’s cap. I like the ones with the barn doors instead of the tail gate. Pretty cool facebook page
Thank you =)
I like my truck to a degree. It will die soon and that worries me. The scaffold won’t be an issue as there are a million other panes to deal with. The bigger issue is the pool structure and the pressure washing of all the glass.
Cool house, congrats Eric.
Thank you =)
Justin, I like your truck…I need to buy a new one!
Hey Eric, nice house!! Congratulations on getting the job!
Thank you!
It feels good to land this one. It was a referral through Benevia.
Eric, you posted you were going to pressure wash some glass?
Nice catch on the job Rob, it is a beautiful home for sure. What’s the condition of the roof? From the pictures it looks like a potential add on.
Jared, I had wondered about the pressure washing of glass myself but, looking at the pictures it appears that the landscaping might deter any poling work on that side. It is hard to tell from that picture angle.
Myself not being a professional window cleaner such as you fella’s I wonder in attempting to WFP that pool enclosure with all the landscaping around it what problems their might be.
Hi Jared,
Yes, the pool structure has moss balls and algae growing on the inside as well as a bit on the outside. The owner doesn’t want a squeegee clean on it, but wants the algae and moss removed. My options are limited. The house goes on the market in 3 weeks. I have the Unger water fed scrub brush, and pole to take care of a lot of the exterior, but the interior is going to be done with my pressure washing extension and “low pressure”. The glass panels overlap a quarter inch or so and algae is growing in between the laps. The job starts the first week of April and I’d happily listen to any ideas that might address the issue, without me having to spend a fortune on some new equipment. I will add that a lift is not feasible for this project.
The roof is in great shape. It’s just covered in pollen, dirt, algae and moss. I don’t approach the prospect of pressure washing the glass with a light heart, but I feel that my options are limited due to access issues. I can nozzle down, reduce the pressure and work cautiously. The fun part will be working near the pool edge to reach the apex of the roof.
Sorry Eric, I don’t know where the “Rob” came from, brain failure it would seem. I would think that your plan to basically down stream the interior should not be much of a problem, except maybe when your soap interacts with the pool. What is your plan in that regard?
Water from the hose bib…
I’m not going to downstream any chems. The environment in the pool house is so humid that I don’t believe that it will take much pressure to clean, and I don’t want to have to try and contain chemicals. The home owner just wants it looking good as it’s going on the market in a couple weeks. My biggest concern is shooting up at the glass from below as it’s overlapped a bit and secured on the exterior, over every support by strip of metal screwed down. I just don’t want to have to replace any glass that decides to fly up, up and away. (short trip)
The pool house is kind of like the “good with the bad” in this bid. The rest of the project including the gutter cleaning on all the structures will be the part to look forward to I suppose.
I have done it several times, the pure water through p washer is a great way to do that job!!
I don’t have a pure water setup, and the winter hasn’t been kind enough to buy one for this job. I am curious if the structures that you have done had moss balls and algae growing on the inside and how you approached the cleaning. Again, the owner isn’t in need of a squeegee finish on the glass, but wants the moss and algae removed. I didn’t upload all the pictures I took of the insides, but if it would help I can make them available to view.
I’m going out there next Tuesday for a trial run and would appreciate any advice. My biggest concern is the overlapping glass panels and how well they are or aren’t secured to the support structure when it comes to pressure washing up on the inside.
Eric have you given thought to soft washing/non pressure washing with bleach only then rinsing with water. I know that my Flojet would tackle that with no problem and the bleach would not hurt the pool water or its systems. Just use a longer wand and a fan tip and your taking care of buisness.
Hi Rob,
I don’t have a soft wash set up like that. With a few more jobs like this I may be able to afford something like that. I’m not sure what a soft washing on the interior would do to remove the moss balls that are cleaning to the inside of the channel of the steel supports. The owner doesn’t have the time on her side to have the moss killed and wait for nature to remove, as the house is going on the market shortly. Also, there is a giant Bird Of Paradise plant inside, along with a lot of other nice foliage that I cant damage with chems.
Well, the bleach would kill the moss very quickly, as quickly as the Bird of Paradise.
Use pure water through pwasher and no spots
