Advice, Multiple Services

I was referring to interior window cleaning which is a totally different animal than exterior window cleaning IF you are using WFP. And in my part of the Country, a soft wash on the house will clean the exterior windows just as good as a WFP.

My opinion is based on my experiences, serves me well and I’m trying to help the OP. Why don’t you take a time out and rejoin the conversation when you grow up enough to discuss the topic on hand without calling names.
Window cleaning and exterior home cleaning are not related
This is the post I was referring too. Your statement how you said it, was that “window cleaning” (your own words) is not related to exterior cleaning. My statement was in reference to that.

Also I would like to point out that I never called anyone a name, So maybe you got me confused with someone else?

For us personally we started out with our full attention on window cleaning. This was our main focus for the first 5 years. We added power washing and gutter cleaning as an add on for existing clients.
Over the last year we have now added roof cleaning and soft washing to our list of services. We are now implementing a separate truck to be used mainly for the power washing/ roof cleaning. Me and one of my guys will handle those jobs. Another two guys will focus on window cleaning. I think an important thing to keep in mind is having the guys trained thoroughly before you have them off solo. That way no matter what you are doing, it’s getting done right.

+1 on this post, I just totally agree with this reply. Thanks Haim

I concur with this.

I started doing window cleaning and found my way into pressure washing and gutter clearance/cleaning because it was being asked for in a “oh, do you do this also?”

So aside from dividing my time and finances buying new equipment for the other jobs… i reaslised i HATED doing PW and Gutters and it costed me extra money.

I am now windows only, and refuse all additional work, unless it’s from regular long term customers only.

If you are a multi staff operation you may find doing additional services a benefit, but i work alone… and able to fill my time with my primary service.

Thanks for the input Chris.

Focus on the services that you enjoy and give you the highest profit margin. I used to clean chandeliers. I HATED cleaning chandeliers! Now I send that work to a guy that can repair and clean them.

Thanks for the input Chad.

If it’s a product I need to make. 3x mark up or higher otherwise it loses money. As far as service add ons as long as I’m making my hourly rate I think their ok. The best thing I’ve found to increase my income is saying NO!!! you know wht I’m taking about. Hey can you also clean this chandelier, Coach lamps, or what every seems like a quick and easy job but takes huge amount of time. Coach lamps are a big loser, to clean 3 which is the average in my area takes about 25 to 30 minutes and no one is going to pay me $45 to $55 to clean 3 coach lamps with so so results.

Thanks for the input Doc.

Cool gotch ya !!!

Dam skippy Haim !!! I added power washing when I found out how easy it really is , an that I could make good money by adding it . I won’t add gutter debris removal cause I hate doing it an it’s labor intense ! I’m not going to add deck restoration cause I hate staining an painting . So for me if it’s easy , an a money maker I’m all about it . It’s nice to break it up every now an them and do something different . Chandelier cleaning forget about it I never ever did one been asked I just tell them we don’t do it . I’ve been asked to do roofs I’ve been asked to do chandeliers an gutter debris removal. It would be good to have a guy you trust to direct them to but if I don’t I don’t sweat it .
I’ve turned down window cleaning jobs cause they were to much of a pain in the ass to take on . If it ain’t easy . No thanks !!!

Thanks, diamondridge and danwagner I appreciate the input. Common sense, really…I just tend overthink things to the extreme!

We offer window cleaning, house washing, gutter cleaning, and roof cleaning. You right, its hard to make all services super prominent. We consider ourselves Window Cleaning Specialist that also offer the other three services. The reason we do it this way is because window cleaning is the biggest percentage of our work. About 50% of our work is windows so our strategy is advertise ourselves mostly for windows, then up sell those window cleaning customers for our other services. Works great. Don’t get me wrong, we get calls every day from people who don’t want windows cleaned but want our other services, but thats how we do things.

Thanks for everyones input on this subject.
