Advice on attaching ladder levelers

So I bought a pair of ladder levelers, Xtenda-Leg Ladder Levelers I did the weirdest thing and read the instructions, and they say to mount the levelers over the bottom rung. I’ve noticed in videos and photos of guys mounting the levelers at the very bottom of the ladder. I know that the manufacturers rec. is probably for a reason but if I put it over the rung I will only get a 7 inch difference between fully extended and all the way up, Which 99% of the time will probably be just fine but I know of some concrete steps that are a bit deeper than that. I’m just wanting to get other peoples thoughts and experience before I put holes in my ladder.

I mounted mine at the very bottom. Different kind though. I’ll take a pic in the morning for ya.

All of ours are mounted per mfg instructions. It is a part of a ladder that your life depends on. The way I see it is that if one of them fails and I have to sue, they are going to want to see the ladder and mounting. If it doesn’t meet their specs, I lose again.

My leg levelers we’re required to be placed halfway on bottom rung. So two bolt above it and two below it. Lawsuits aren’t worth it.

Thats kind of my feelings. do you ever have any trouble with steps or is that 7 inch difference enough?

As of right now no. I will have to figure something out when that day comes. Lol

OK well your making me feel better. I’ll probably mount those tonight. My luck I’ll end up needing them today.

Here’s a pic of mine. It has 3 mounting places so it is at the bottom but still over the bottom rung. Kinda heavy though

I have the werner automatic leg levelers, best investment yet in terms of safety.

So I went to install the levelers last night and in the fine print at the bottom of the instructions it says that for Metalic brand sectional ladders the levelers may be placed below the bottom rung. It also says that the levelers should be placed in such a way to get 8 inches of extension past the bottom of the leg.
