Hey guys! I was contacted by an out of state maintenance company that has a contract for a local airport. They want me to do the air traffic control tower. Tomorrow will be my first day going out to do it, however, the gentleman said I spoke with said to just go out there and do a quote/complete job the same day. So, basically, I’ll clean them and then send him a bill. Price was no discussed, he just said I’m sure it’ll be a fair price, just go out and do it, and we would like it to be a monthly thing.
There are 12 windows total. Need to be cleaned inside an out. I will be high up on a catwalk with rails, the windows are big, and slop in towards the center of the tower. I am thinking $10 or more per window but again, I dont want to “sticker shock” them and lose monthly income from it. My girlfriend actually suggested $20 per window, which i felt was high, but maybe its not. Does anyone do something like this that can help me out?
Thank you!
I quoted one of these once, I think $299. Same #windows. Didn’t get it. But I was imagining trying to pole over all their controls. Eh.
You can always go down you can never go up. Don’t forget to price him higher for the first clean. Then give him your maintenance cleaning price for monthly.
Sounds weird that they don’t want a price first, but just clean it , an see how long it takes , An price your maintenance cleans at your hourly rate you need to make. Don’t forget it sound like it’s a little out of the way to. That has to come into play with pricing.
I do this exact job that you are discussing. It is 7 floors high and has 12 windows. I am a very efficient window cleaner and this job takes 1.75 to 2 hours everytime and I have done it about 8 times and monthly. I have done it traditional and wfp because they have a spicket up there. I prefer traditional as I don’t need any tubing to trip on at 7 floors and because of the angle the wfp saved no time. 1.75 to 2 hours might seem like a long time for 12 windows but they get done slow because 1. I don’t want to die 2. The windows are at a very odd angle going behind you on the exterior & on the interior there is shades to lift up and down, expensive equipment I don’t want to break and crap to move off the inside ledges. My quote was $180.00 and like I said I am at 1.75 to 2 hours monthly everytime. I could lower my price and still make money but the customer is happy. Quote this at your monthly hourly for 2 hours! If you have extensive drive time add that in there.

Thank you all for the info!
Luckily, the airport is almost in my backyard. It’ll be less than a 5 minute drive to the main entrance.
Supposedly, they were done monthly by a janitorial service but something with insurance forced them to hire someone else. I don’t know if there was anything damaged or they simply couldn’t be up that high. idk.
Like Majestic said, I may come in at that $20 per window price for the initial clean, then go down to $15 that Denver charged. We’ll see how long this first cleaning will take. I will follow up with you guys tonight after I send the invoice!
Alrighty ladies and gents,
So the first cleaning took 2.5 hours. The windows have not been cleaned since January.
The janitorial company that was doing them before would no longer allow their employees to do the windows because of the risk.
They were pretty dirty, big, angled in towards the building, and I had to work around a bunch of equipment inside. Outside, the catwalk railing allowed only limited space to pole. I figured it out but it was a bit challenging.
I sent an invoice of $239 for the first cleaning and told them it will be $199 for monthly maintenance.
Once I hear back from the account manager, I will report back!

I did our local airport tower for a few years when I worked for someone else.
I don’t know what it was priced at because it was rolled into a complete janitorial
maintenance program. It would take about 1.5 hours though. I used a 2’ window mop and a 3’ squeegee.
The inside was a p.i.t.a. because they were working.
I clean one of these. I’m not sure the price, but it takes me about 50-60 minutes to do in/out. I clean it monthly. I use a 22 wand and squeegee. I stick the outsides halfway and grab the rest by hand. Usually have to start before the sun gets on it, as it becomes tough to clean. Insides are a little tricky, I roll up the vinyl shades and hop up on the desk area to access the insides. I turn my phone off and work around the air traffic controllers and not blind them with the morning sun. I just clean the “top” of the building
Also, air traffic controllers are hilarious. Always have something to say and make you laugh, hearing all the people on the air radio is also interesting. The view from up there is awesome. Just don’t slip while you are pulling back on your stick. LOL, I am as close to the window was possible even if I get dripped on lol. Way away from that railing!!!
