Alternative to scrapers/blades

Does anyone have any alternatives they use to get things, stuck on windows, off? Something that would fit on an extension pole? I’d like to get away from using blades as much as possible.

Hi, Jonathan.
There are other methods that may work depending on what is stuck on the glass. Sometimes the edge of your scrubber will work as some have an abrasive strip. Other times you can stick a piece of steel or bronze wool on your pole tip, wet or dry, and loosen something. Or even a threaded pad holder with a white pad and some chemical will do it. If you are dealing with paint or stain among other things, that becomes more of an issue if you don’t use a scraper. There are discussions on this forum about the issues of using scrapers and even some possible chemicals that will do wonders on silicone, caulk, etc.

Hi Jonathan,

Abrasives are the key. Especially when used along with certain solvents. I have helped the WCR with a product called Plastee Gritt that is a plastic powder/abrasive. When mixed with another product they have which is a DLimonene, it will eat up silicone and chew up dried tree sap in seconds. It is possible to put a small flat doodle bug on a pole and put a little of this on that. Then raise it up and scrub. Next soap and squeegee.

This is just the beginning. I will be looking at many different abrasive products. Both compositional, mineral, and diamond. Used for stain removal, scratch removal, and cleaning. Recently I have been playing with a nano diamond slurry. Strange stuff! These will be custom products. To learn about them just ask to be on the VGD email list.
